A pregnancy is probably the biggest news you'll ever get to share. So how should you make the 'mother of all announcements' to: your partner; your parents; your older children; your friends; your boss; the world!?

YOUR PARTNER

A simple way to say it without words is to let him find a positive pregnancy test just don't count on them knowing which lines mean positive and which mean negative.

You could just leave it lying around, or you could do something more fun like having a baby doll holding it, hiding it in his car or mailing it to him at work. There's also a free online pregnancy test you could suggest he takes (yes him) at Materni-Tee.com/test.html

Other items that could make the penny drop are pacifiers/dummies, rattles, baby booties etc. These can be given as gifts, left to be found or placed in a bag to see if he can guess what they are by feel.

THE GRANDPARENTS-TO-BE

OLDER SIBLINGS

The way you explain the news to your previous child(ren) will naturally depend on their age. However old they are, it's worth remembering that they could feel that their place is somehow threatened by the impending arrival of a younger brother or sister.

For toddlers or infants, a realistic baby doll may help them get used to the idea of another baby's arrival.

DISTANT RELATIVES

THE BOSS

Your boss can sometimes be the trickiest person to tell, depending on your relationship with your them, the size of the company and so on.

'I have good news and bad news' (good for you, bad for the company) is one popular way to start the conversation.

If it's temporary leave that you will need, you may be able to look into temp agencies etc to make arranging cover for your absence seem less daunting.

THE WORLD

The pregnant woman herself is not always the first to know. For some, the excitement or tension is too much, so they ask someone else, probably their partner, to check the pregnancy test first. But if you have been trying to conceive, you may want to think about what to say or do to make the moment even more special.
