One might be exactly what you're looking for or maybe these suggestions will inspire you to dream up a new concept in conception announcement. If so, you can email me your idea if you'd like to share it with my readers. Likewise if you'd like to share a story of how you made a pregnancy announcement, send it to pregnancyannouncement@yahoo.com To read other people's pregnancy announcement stories view my pregnancy announcement blog. Or if you're wondering where to find the best shirts, tanks and tops for announcing that you're pregnant, browse through this Pregnancy Announcement T-Shirt Directory . YOUR PARTNER A simple way to say it without words is to let him find a positive pregnancy test just don't count on them knowing which lines mean positive and which mean negative. You could just leave it lying around, or you could do something more fun like having a baby doll holding it, hiding it in his car or mailing it to him at work. There's also a free online pregnancy test you could suggest he takes (yes him) at Materni-Tee.com/test.html Other items that could make the penny drop are pacifiers/dummies, rattles, baby booties etc. These can be given as gifts, left to be found or placed in a bag to see if he can guess what they are by feel. Similarly, you could order some baby clothes or bibs with amusing messages to give to him. Hanging a 'BABY ON BOARD' sign in his car window could make a nice surprise in the morning. If you have a color printer you can print one out for free here. If he doesn't embarrass easily, you could arrange a public announcement somewhere that you'll both be, such as a fair or a sporting event. Or for a slightly smaller audience, book a meal at your favourite restaurant and order a half-bottle of champagne. When it arrives, explain that you won't be drinking alcohol for a while as you give a meaningful pat to your tummy (this could also be done over a romantic meal at home). You could have a bunch of flowers or balloons delivered to his work, with a card announcing the news. There are books about fatherhood, parenthood and pregnancy that you could leave by his bedside. You'd love the look on his face if you walk in wearing one of the pregnancy announcement tee shirts from Materni-Tee.com There are also designs just for dads-to-be. Finally, if you're confident he'll be absolutely thrilled by the news, you could wake him at 2 am and say he'll have to get used to it, because... THE GRANDPARENTS-TO-BE Most parents can't wait to become grandparents, but it isn't always the case. How you announce your pregnancy may depend on how you think they'll take the news. You could simply tell them that they'll need to set an extra place for next year's festive meals. You may want to write a card or note saying that you think they were wonderful parents and you're sure they'll be wonderful grandparents (even the most unexpressive dad can find a lump in his throat with that one). You could give them one of the tee shirts for grandparents-to-be from Materni-Tee.com Or as with your partner, you could turn up wearing one of the pregnancy announcement designs available there.
If they like gardening, you could give them a seedling with a note saying that another branch is being added to the family tree. OLDER SIBLINGS The way you explain the news to your previous child(ren) will naturally depend on their age. However old they are, it's worth remembering that they could feel that their place is somehow threatened by the impending arrival of a younger brother or sister. The seedling gift (see under grandparents above) could be appropriate for older siblings. For toddlers or infants, a realistic baby doll may help them get used to the idea of another baby's arrival. You could give them a toddler or kid sized top with a design that says I'm going to be a big brother or I'm going to be a big sister so they can be the center of attention as you spread the news further. A book appropriate to their age can also be helpful as a way for you to spend time with them discussing the changes that a new baby will bring to your family. With some family far away, you may want to use it as an excuse to call them up and have a chat, as well as breaking the news to them. Just don't forget to check the time difference first! You don't want your announcement to be a 'rude awakening'. You can check time zones online at this World Clock . There are lots of sites offering ecards that can be sent by email but you may prefer to send a snail mail letter announcing your pregnancy. If so, you can dress up the enelope by using a pregnancy announcement stamp or Postage pal. It can often be hard to keep news like this from your friends some have an infallible radar for knowing when 'something's up'. If they haven't already guessed, one thing that would help them along would be to ask how they feel about the name they were given, or ask which names are their favourites. You could go shopping together and stop at every window displaying baby items. Or simply go out wearing a tee shirt or top with the word BABY and an arrow pointing to your tummy.
THE BOSS Your boss can sometimes be the trickiest person to tell, depending on your relationship with your them, the size of the company and so on. Asking for maternity leave out of the blue is one way to broach the subject, but possibly not the most sensitive! 'I have good news and bad news' (good for you, bad for the company) is one popular way to start the conversation. If it's temporary leave that you will need, you may be able to look into temp agencies etc to make arranging cover for your absence seem less daunting. THE WORLD If you would like to share your news with the wider world, the internet provides countless forums on the subject. One good place to start is Babies Online.com If you would like health professionals to know of your condition in an emergency, the BabyInWaiting bracelet is worth considering. Wearing a top proclaiming 'PREGGERS' will let passers by know that you're expecting. It might even get you a seat on public transport. If that proves too subtle, try carrying a bag with the message 'notice: all seats are reserved for pregnant women LIKE ME'. THE MOTHER-TO-BE The pregnant woman herself is not always the first to know. For some, the excitement or tension is too much, so they ask someone else, probably their partner, to check the pregnancy test first. If you are that other person, the result will probably be written all over your face. But if you have been trying to conceive, you may want to think about what to say or do to make the moment even more special. Some of the suggestions above may give you ideas. You could carry the test as if it was a tiny baby, or hook a BABY ON BOARD sign onto it. You could cue a song about 'baby' (most people's collections have a few) or something like 'We Are Family' by Sister Sledge. You could choose a gift to say congratulations on your pregnancy from the thousands in this Pregnancy Announcement T-Shirt Directory. Whatever you do, your efforts are sure to be appreciated by the new mother-to-be. Lastly, if you are ready to share news of a pregnancy, CONGRATULATIONS from me. Best wishes. | ||
