Important: This is a non-profit effort to help Himalayan Porters and Guides. This site simply provides contact details for porters and guides who have been recommended by trekkers doing Himalayan treks. We only list individuals, personally recommended by trekkers.
Guides and Porters working the Himalayan trek routes pay a shocking proportion of their pay to middle men. If you are planning on trekking in the Himalaya, take this opportunity to get in contact with your hired help directly. If you've been already, and would like to recommend a Porter or Guide, Please get in touch and I'll add them to our list of recommended Porter and Guides.
Some more guides and porters added this October. Please sign the guestbook! or take a look at what others are saying.

In
December of 2000 we did the Annapurna Circuit in western Nepal. This walk
covers over 300km of beautiful Himalayan uplands. The trek peaks at a
height of 5416 metres above sea level at the famous Thorung La. However,
this site is not about the trek itself or the beautiful Annapurna. If you
require information about either click here for a list of useful links.
The purpose of this siteLike a lot of people, we needed a porter/guide to help us to do the trip. There are many reasons why you might consider a porter/guide. The Annapurna circuit is not a stroll in the park. It is a long trek through often difficult terrain. For the higher one third of the walk you walk in constant sub-zero temperatures and thin air. Only 50% of the oxygen available at sea level is present at 5000m.
The Middle-ManIn order to hire a porter or guide you usually end up going into a travel agency or organising it through your hotel. This is fine. It puts business the porter's way. What is not fine is the cut they take. Hotels and agencies will take anything from one third to three quarters of the money. If you've been trekking you will know how hard these guys have to work for their dollar. It seemed wrong to me that in order to get work, the porters have to hand over several days pay to the guys behind the desks. This is the way they do things in Nepal. That doesn't make it fair or right. When I learned how much our porter had to pay out just for being put in contact with me, I got bothered. In order to help Buddhi (Our porter/guide) and other good, reliable porters and guides I said I'd do a website where prospective trekkers can get in contact with porters and guides. And so this is the result ;) Where you can helpMany trekkers become friends with their hired help. If you have been trekking and hired a guide or porter you would recommend, please get in contact with me and I'll put their details here on the site..
