Joydrop
If you don't know who they are, just flip on your radio to your local
rock station. Their song, "Beautiful" is close to being played out. I've
been lucky enough to see Joydrop twice in concert. Their Metasexual
is one of my most favorite CDs. There's a song for every mood you're in,
and Tara Sloane's vocals are killer. For especially great songs, listen
for "Breakdown," "Spiders,"

This
punk-grunge band straight out of Seattle was predicted to follow Pearl
Jam and Nirvana in their
success.
Unfortunately, the still-unsolved 1993 murder of beloved lead singer, Mia
Zapata, led to the band's demise. The remaining band members--Steve Moriarty,
Matt Dresdner, and Joe Spleen (along with Julian Gibson)--got together
to form the band, The Dancing French Liberals of '48 .Together, the
Gits came out with three albums, Kings & Queens, Frenching the Bully,
and the post-humously released Conquering the Chicken.
Oleander
Oleander has been around a while, though it's taken a surprisingly
long time for them to break through the charts. You can't lose with their
CD February Son; every song is rousing, catchy, or simply great.
I saw them recently in concert on Dec 17, 1999 in Miami, Florida. It was
such a rush.
Sheryl Crow
I have all her CDs. If I saw her in concert, I would freak out. She
has a great versatility and voice, not to mention very clever lyrics. Her
style can range from bluesy jazz to upbeat pop to raucous rock. There's
a little bit of something for everyone in her music. Sheryl Crow is hands-down
my favorite female musician in rock.

Third Eye Blind
Third Eye Blind has the ability to create rousing and fun rock tunes
as well as unique and clever ballads. Currently, they have out their awesome
self-titled debut CD, and a new one, Blue, that still has yet to
assert itself fully in the charts. I saw 3eb in concert last Spring
1998 and they put on a really great show. Keep an eye out for Stephen Jenkins'
dramatics on their "God of Wine" performance. They are also, in my opinion,
masters of the best driving music in the world. My favorite of theirs is
"Motorcycle Drive By." It's great to play in your car and sing absurdly
loud with.
Sarah McLachlan
A beautiful voice and wonderful lyrics. I recommend any piano or guitar
player to get a hold of her Surfacing sheet music (especially her
instrumental, "The Last Dance"). The melodies are wonderful. Get a hold
of all of her songs on CD if you can. Certain stores still carry her B
sides (a European import) and there is a double CD out that contains her
freedom sessions as well as Fumbling Towards Ecstasy. My favorites
include "Ice Cream," "Ol' 55," and "Full of Grace." Her songs are very
honest and female-oriented (though this didn't stop my two male next-door
neighbors from blasting her music so loud that the whole building could
hear). One reviewer compared said that if Botticelli's angels could speak,
their voice would match Sarah McLachlan...A beautiful compliment for a
great artist.
Fuel

If you're lucky enough to see these guys live, I highly recommend it.
They are very attuned to their audience. Brett Scallions on lead vocals
passed around his water bottle and told us all to drink up the last time
he and the group visited Fat Kat's Music Hall here in downtown Jacksonville.
Sunburn
is a great rock CD, one of those where all the songs are top-notch.
