Sample Page from Poetry Handbook ... About the Founder of Poetry Enterprises Order Books from Poetry Enterprises |
Poetry Enterprises is a private educational nonprofit which benefits poetry in a variety of ways--through the international poetry anthology to topos, to volunteer teaching in local area schools, and schools around the state about poetry, to providing educational materials to teachers and self-taught poets which are free, and promoting the cause of poetry through readings, student poetry awards, and other benefits related to poetry. Artist and graphic designer Ben Kaiel of Portland was hired to improve upon the aesthetic presentation of Poetry Enterprise publications, including the drawings you see on this page, and the design of From Roots to Branches, An Anthology of Sports and Writing published in 1998. Poet and retired professor of English, Roger Weaver, is the founder and Executive Director of Poetry Enterprises. He may be reached at 712 N.W. 13th St., Corvallis, OR 97330, or at weaverr@onid.orst.edu . Contributions of $15 and over to Poetry Enterprises, and books donated to schools with a donation value of at least $15 will qualify for a tax-deductible receipt from nonproit 501(c)3 Poetry Enterprises, if requested. Please designate how you would like your donation to be used (whether to go to schools, libraries, or cultural enrichment programs such as poetry readings in prisons, the McClaren Facility for Boys, or the Jackson Sreet Youth Shelter in Corvallis).
Individual pages from a poetry handbook by Roger Weaver may be ordered here. To view a sample page click here. These are from a handbook called Standing on Earth, Throwing These Sequins at the Stars. Wider involvement includes volunteer teaching about poetry at Oregon schools such as the Crossroads School in Oregon City, the Da Vinci School of the Arts in Portland, and the Willamette Valley Community School in Corvallis, Oregon. Organizing, publicizing and staging poetry readings for as wide a constituency of poets as are found in the mid-Willamette valley are also part of the involvement of Poetry Enterprises. Finally, because Greece has been such an inspiration, I have started a support group for improving the library on Paros island where I travel infrequently with friends to spend time, a group called the Friends of the Library of Paros, and I do informal research to support a translation project of the island's most famous artifact, a curious and eclectic cultural history of Greece from Hellenic times called the Parian Chronicle. |
