If you were a child of the '80's then....

Welcome to

The Pocket Rockers Homepage

Pocket Rockers were an endless tape format player by Fisher Price. It was an innovative product based on the old familiar 8-Tracks of the 1970's. Just about all the music you heard on the radio up until a few years ago was played on similar technology: A one track cart. Many radio stations even in the 21st century still use "cart" technology especially for commercials and news.

Pocket Rockers may be called 2 track carts because there were two songs employed on the same tape. A switch on the side of the Pocket Rocker reverses the tape to play the other song. Where can you buy pocket rockers? Toys R Us had them in the late '80's and they hit the clearance bin in 1992. Ebay is the place of choice. Expect to pay about $10-$20 for a player and $1 to $5 for a tape. Have patience. I've been watching Ebay auctions for these things for years and there is almost always a Pocket Rocker for sale every one or two weeks. These things were made for abuse so they seem to have held up quite well so far. I have only found a player and tape ONCE in "the wild" not on ebay in the last 15 years.

Update for 2009... I just found out that Geocities will be no more by the end of 2009. I haven't updated this site much for five years, but consistently a couple hundred people visit this site each month. Just shows that there are lots of fans out there for Pocket Rockers! Thank you for the e-mails and letting me know what tapes are missing. It's been a fun nine years running this site. I will move the site to something more 21st century sometime this summer.
