Who we are and why we are here... Pixie-bobs in the care of rescue are usually owner relinquished or rescued from animal shelters that have "Kill Policies". They almost always end up in rescue through no fault of their own. An owner may become too ill to care for their pet, or may even die. Allergies to cats can sometimes take a period of time to develop, causing an owner to have to relinquish their beloved pet after a period of time. Sometimes a new baby arrives, an owner has an unexpected move overseas or across country, or got a pet without thinking about the fifteen-year plus commitment that pet ownership requires. In rare cases, a pet is taken in after being ordered removed from an abuse or neglect situation. If intereseted in a cat or kitten from our rescue, we will ask you to sign an adoption contract and/or pay an adoption fee. We pay a fair sum of money out of our own pockets each year, in the interest of finding homes for needy cats. This fee is charged to help defray the spaying/neutering costs, medical expenses, and other unforeseen expenses related to rescue work. Even then, your adoption fee usually will not cover all the adoption related costs. Many rescuers will gladly accept extra monetary donations or help with food and litter supplies, or veterinary care. The Pixie-bob's increasing popularity has unfortunately led to a lot of "backyard breeding" and people making purchases of kittens or cats for the wrong reasons. If interested, you may contact us to inquire about serving as a foster home for Pixie-bobs in need. Often, people want a Pixie-bob solely because of its wild look, not aware that its active and dominating personality could be completely opposite from what they want! A rescue Pixie-bob has already been torn away from at least one home, and we are simply doing all we can to make sure that it never needs to go through that again.
