Intro Crap

This is my website! I set it up for school as a sort of "work in progress" thing where I can update all of my lesson plans, keep track of websites I really liked, and basically just share all of my school crap with other teachers/soon to be teachers. Who knows, maybe I will keep this thing updated, or maybe I will forget about it and let it fall into disrepair and eventually let it go into whatever dimension old unused websites go to when they die. Anyways, enjoy!

Life Crap

Well let's see here. I have lived in Calgary since I was 2 months old, when we moved from Nanaimo, B.C. I'm 20 years old and I have 2 sisters, Nicole (22), and Laura (18). I also have 2 stepsisters, Trish (24) and Lara (26), who each have kids. My Mom has her own day home, my Dad is the owner of Bell Davidson Insurance Brokers, and my Step-Dad works for B.J. Services. At home we have 5 (yes, five) cats, and mine is the adorable calico, Georgie, who can do no wrong.

What else is there about me? I guess I was always meant to love English classes, cause I love to read and have been referred to as a grammar nazi. I am one of those people who actually reads for pleasure (gasp!) and if I really love a book, tend to read it in less than 48 hours. I read the new Michael Crichton book, "State of Fear", in less than 48 hours. It made me sad.

So you have heard about family, now for friends!!! I have quite a few friends from work and school and stuff (yeah, I'm super cool popular. You know it!). My 2 best freinds are Dan and Jocelyn. Dan, I have known for basically our whole lives, and we can go for weeks without seeig each other and then act like no time at all. We went to school together, and until very recently worked together too. I met Jocelyn at work about 3 years ago, and she always reminds me of the first conversation we had (which I SWEAR I don't remember). She heard a Beatles song and said "I love the Beatles!", and I apparrently "glared" at her and replied "I hate them," and walked away. Ahhh, best friends, eh? But now we are practically inseperable. Lisa, one of my closest friends from school, is in Education with me, and we are planning on doing the whole thing together! It is great fun! Sara and Joce were best friends (until I came into the picture! Nyuk nyuk nyuk!), and now we are an evil, unfortunately disfunctional trio. It's great! Paul lives across the street from me and I have been friends with him almost as long as Dan. Shannon and I also work together and she and Joce and I do the charity at our store together, and there are many many others who would take up way too much room, and are just not important enough!!! (KIDDING!!!)
Work Crap

I have worked at Shawnessy Safeway ("Slaveway") since February of 2001. When I started there I was a courtesy clerk (read: bag boy), which was probably the most slack job in the entire world. Then it became winter again at the end of the year, and pushing buggies sucked a lot in the snow, so I became a cashier. It is the general consensus around the store that cashier is the crappiest job there, because we are the ones that have to deal with irate customers the most, but for the most part I don't mind it!

I am also in charge of the Because We Care charity at my store for the second year running, and it is one of the most fun "jobs" ever. The deal is that each year (from September to June), each store chooses a charity to represent and they raise money for that charity all year. This year we are doing the Canadian Cancer Society (links page), and have raised more than ten thousand dollars so far.

School Crap

I am currently attending Mount Royal College in Calgary, Alberta, where I am in the Bachelor of Education, University Transfer program. I am in my third year here and I love the school so freaking much that it will hurt me to leave at the end of this semester! After the summer, I will be attending (I hope) the University of Calgary.

I want to be a High School English teacher when I am finished getting my degree. I have taken a LOT of English courses and would love to teach it. My Teaching Language class made me realize just how important it is to have a command of language, and I want to help students with that as well as myself.

I think the main reason I want to teach is because I love to learn. If I could be paid to  be a student here I would be in heaven! To sit in a class full of my peers and just talk about the last novel we read, or to watch someone's presentation and find out their point of view on an issue, or to hear what questions a professor has of us is fun for me, and I want to make sure it is fun for all of my students as well. I think that someone with a passion for learning should be a teacher, because I have had that kind of teacher. That is the kind that really makes a difference.
