| After the losing more then 10 games in each of the previous two seasons, the Patriots front office decided to shake-up the team and traded defensive stars Nick Buoniconti to Miami and Leroy Mitchell to Houston. That was not the most shocking event of the offseason. During the press conference announcing new coach Clive Rush, the new Coach grabbed a ungrounded microphone and was shocked to the point he collapsed to his knees. Unfortunately, the 1969 were never electrfying on the field. The Rush ERA got off to a rough start as the Patriots stumbled out of the gate and proceeded to lose their first seven games, many of them blowouts. The Patriots kicked off the second half of the season by surprising the playoff bound Houston Oilers. Two Mike Taliaferro' TD passes paced the Patriots to a 24-0 win. The Patriots would stage a mini rally as they would win 3 straight games for the first time since 1966 and inthe process managed to escape last place. The good finish gave hope for a better tommorrow. |
