American Pungsan

In November 1993,
13 Pungsan puppies were brought into South Korea from North Korea.
They were the first Pungsans outside
of N. Korea.

On July 2, 1997, just three carefully selected decendents of these dogs were imported into the U.S.A. and they are THE FIRST PUNGSANS IN THE WESTERN WORLD.

Six more puppies were imported in the next few months.
Among those Hosan (AP# 1), Nampung (AP# 2), and Sara (AP# 4) were  exceptional and  selected to be the foundation stock of THE AMERICAN PUNGSAN.

When the Korean dog fanciers learned that the Pungsan dogs still existed, a number of requests arose to obtain these wonderful dogs.  Thus quite a few so called 'Punsan dogs' were imported into South-Korea from unknown sources.  Some of these dogs were also bought into the U.S.A.

Mr. and Mrs. Jang, who imported carefully selected Pungsan puppies, didn't want to mix their dogs with the other so called 'Pungsans'.  They started their own breed to distinguish them from the other 'Pungsans' and named them THE AMERICAN PUNGSAN.

Sara gave birth to 6 puppies in May of 1998 and Nampung gave birth to 4 puppies in September of 1998.
