Duration in Sports – illustration of present duration and
proposed duration using the Aristean Decimal Time in various sports
The basic
unit in the Aristean Decimal Time is called “aristo”. This name is equivalent to the present standard hour. The decimal time for minute is “deciaristo”
for 1/10th of an “aristo”.
The decimal time for second is “milliaristo” for 1/1000th of
an “aristo”, and one thousandth of a milliaristo is a microaristo. The short name for deciaristo is “deciar”
and milliaristo, “milliar”. The
abbreviations for these units are “ar” for “aristo”, “dar” for “deciaristo”,
“mar” for “milliaristo”, and “mar” for “microaristo”.

Presently, the second is the SI base unit for time. A second is slightly greater than a milliaristo, i.e. one second equals 1.157407407 milliaristo, or one milliaristo equals 0.864 second. The second is in sexagesimal (base 60) whereas the milliaristo is in decimal (base 10). It is proposed herein that the milliaristo be adopted as the new base SI unit for time. This will complete the conversion of all base SI units to decimal or to metric. This will need to redefine all the derived SI units using the second. It may take years for the complete transition, but we have to do it someday. As one wise person said, “If we don’t speak up, who will speak up? If we don’t move, who will move? If not now, when will it ever be?”
A milliaristo is 0.864 second. If a second is defined as the time for the metal cesium to radiate 9,192,631,770 waves of constant frequency, a milliaristo then can be defined as the time for the metal cesium to radiate 7,942,433,849.28 waves of constant frequency. If we round this off to the nearest unit, the difference is 0.28 wave. In one day, this is equivalent to 100,000 milliaristos x 0.28 = 28,000 waves. For this to be equal to one milliaristo, it will take 283,658.35 days or 776.6 years!
The readout displaying the Aristean decimal time using
digital stopwatches will consist of two digits for aristo, a decimal
point, and three digits for milliaristo, as shown in the following examples:

In case accuracy is required up to a hundredth or even a thousandth of a milliaristo (as used in technical applications, automobile racing, and Olympic sports, such as cycling, rowing, canoeing, swimming, track and field, skiing, speedskating, biathlon, bobsledding and tobogganing), then the decimal display is increased to six digits. If the Aristean time is preferred to be expressed in milliaristo, then the readout display will consist of five digits for milliaristo, a decimal point, and three digits for thousandth of a milliaristo (equal to microaristo), as shown in the following examples:

o Time more than 50 aristos is daytime, ie. second 50 aristos
(51 to 100).
§
More than 50 and less
than or equal to 75 aristos is morning, or before noon.
§
More than 75 and less
than or equal to 100 aristos is after noon.
The day
starts at sunset and not at midnight.
The starting time of the day is the present standard 6:00 p.m. Although the sun may set before 6:00 p.m. in
winter or after 6:00 p.m. in summer, the separation of the day would still be
the present standard 6:00 p.m. So the
day starts with one whole night followed by one whole day. Isn’t this more logical than starting the
day at midnight? This follows the
Jewish way of commencing the day although they did not divide the solar day
into 100 units. This also follows God’s
definition of a day as stated in Genesis 1:5, 8, 13, 19, 23, and 31. The start of the day is equal to one-fourth
of a day, or the present six hours, or 25 aristos from noon.
Quoted below from the Holy Bible, King James Version, are the
following excerpts in the book of Genesis of the Old Testament wherein God defined
what comprises a day:
Genesis 1:1-5 – In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. And the earth was without form, and void;
and darkness was upon the face of the deep.
And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. And God said, “Let there be light”: and
there was light. And God saw the light,
that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. And God called the light “Day”, and the
darkness he called “Night”. And the
evening and the morning were the first day.
Genesis
1:8 – And the
evening and the morning were the second day.
Genesis
1:13 – And the
evening and the morning were the third day.
Genesis
1:19 – And the
evening and the morning were the fourth day.
Genesis
1:23 – And the
evening and the morning were the fifth day.
Genesis
1:31 – And the
evening and the morning were the sixth day.
Approximately,
one aristo is equal to the present standard 15 minutes. This means that about four aristos is equal
to the present standard hour. The aristo
is divided into 10 deciaristo. The
present standard minute is equal to about 0.7 deciaristo. One aristo is also equal to 1,000
milliaristo. The present standard
second is equal to about one milliaristo.
Milliaristo, or milliar for short, is used for precision in sports and
in technical applications.
Aristean time
indicates if it is before or after midnight, or before or after noon; or
nighttime or daytime. There is no need
to indicate a.m. (ante meridiem, before noon) or p.m. (post meridiem,
after noon).
