| Our Mission As the Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen has continued to grow in popularity, so has the need for breed rescue resources. The PBGV Lifeline Rescue Network has been established as an extra helping hand for Petits in crisis who, through no fault of their own, fall outside the rescue safety net of the national breed club. The Petit Basset Griffon Vendeen is a wire-haired scent hound developed to hunt small game in the rugged, difficult terrain of the Vendeenregion of France. He is not a native of the United States. The PBGV's devil-may-care appearance and rollicking good nature have won the hearts of many. The most common misconceptions about the breed are related to his size and activity level. Upon first meeting a Petit, many people are surprised to find a larger hound than they had expected. The PBGV ranges in size from 13-15 inches at the withers and can weigh up to as much as 45 lb. Unlike his distant cousin, the Basset, the PBGV is not a laid-back, quiet, sedentary breed. He is alert, energetic and sometimes quite vocal. (Click here for the official AKC Breed Standard and to view a video of the PBGV if you'd like more detail.) PBGV Lifeline accepts any purebred PBGV in crisis, regardless of age, health or circumstance. Our job is to ensure that all Petits have the opportunity to live out their lives in safety, security and happiness by removing them from at-risk situations and placing them into loving, permanent homes. With your help and support, we can continue to succeed in our goal. |
