Pakistan is a Federal Republic and is known as the Islamic Republic of Pakistan. It came into existence on 14th August, 1947.

The Election Commission of Pakistan was created on 23rd March 1956 under the Article 137 of the Constitution of 1956 with the Chief
Pakistan Election Commissioner as its head.

The reshaped Supreme Court rejected five challenges to the legality of MUSHARRAF’s October reelection and one petition still pending. The new 10-member Supreme Court replaced the former Supreme Court that was disbanded after MUSHARRAF’s emergency declaration.


On January 1, 2004, Gen. Pervez Musharaf won 658 out of 1,170 votes in the Electoral College of Pakistan, and according to 'Article 41(8)' of the Constitution of Pakistan Election Result, was "deemed to be elected" to the office of President until October, 2007
