If you live in or around Oskaloosa, Kansas and you are looking for people to play handball with, you've arrived at the right place! The Oskaloosa Handball Club currently consists of 10 members. We are mostly an informal group, and members usually call each other to set up games. Once a month, however, we organize a one-evening tournament with all 10 players (when available).

The only handball courts in the area are down in Lawrence at the Robinson Gym. In the summer, we play on the 3 wall outdoor courts, and in the winter we play on the racquetball courts inside. Although a racquetball court is not technically considered regulation, it works ok and lets us keep playing year round.

What is Handball?

Handball is a game very similar to racquetball, except that you hit the ball with your hands instead of a racquet. Handball can be played on a one-wall, three-wall or four-wall court. The objective is to win each rally by serving or returning the ball so the opponent is unable to keep the ball in play. A rally is won when the ball bounces on the floor twice before it is returned, or when a player returns the ball so that it hits the floor before reaching the front wall. Games are played to 21, and usually best 2 out of 3 games makes a match.

Handball Court

This is the basic court design for handball. In one-wall handball, the sides will be lines drawn on the court. In three-wall handball, the sides will be walls that can be used in play. In four-wall handball, there will also be a wall at the back of the court that can be used in play. In one-wall or three-wall, the back will be a line that marks the out-of-bounds area.

The service zone is where the ball must be served from, and the ball must travel beyond the short line to be considered a valid serve. The player returning the serve must stand behind the restraining line until the ball is struck by the server.

A good friend of mine recently started a site and I promised I would give him a link. So if you are into Anti-Bush T-Shirts & Buttons then give his site a look. It's not exactly my cup of tea, but I think he has done a really great job with his site. He even has some pretty fun flash games you can play, all of which he programmed himself.
