Introduction
The 1685 Group was formed in 1968, initially to preserve former Birmingham City Transport Leyland Titan bus No.1685. Since then further vehicles have passed into the Group's ownership.
The Group has maintained a membership of approximately     25 to 30 members from the earliest day's. This has proved large enough to ensure survival of the Group but small enough to retain a special atmosphere. It is still recognisably the same Group that was formed in 1968.
1685 Group vehicles attend commercial vehicle rallies throughout the summer months and form an integral part of the vehicle display at the "Birmingham& Midland Museum of Transport".
Of the Groups's vehicles , 1107 was until 1971 owned by an individual and was one of the first preserved provincial buses. As a result it is one of the best-known preserved buses in the United Kingdom.  The first restoration of 1685 was completed in 1977.
The lorry , formerley BCT bus 1022, was originally acquired to ensure a supply of parts for 1107. This vehicle remains intact, the Group pondering it's future.
As dramatic change from the traditional blue, primrose and black/gold lining colours of the Groups vehicles the fourth vehicle is a "Midland Red".   4031 is classified as a BMMO LD8.
Currently this vehicle is undergoing extensive restoration, the site & sounds of the LD8 plying the roads of the Midlands is surely not that far away.
