The Association for Protection of the Rights of the Refugees from Abkhazia (APRRA) is a Non-Governmental, Non-profit organization. The Association was founded in October, 1998 in Tbilisi (Capital of the Republic of Georgia) as the International Association "Caucasus: Ethnic Relations, Human Rights, Geopolitics" (IACERHRG). On 13th November, 2004 at the 6th Annual Conference of IACERHRG a decision was made rename the Association and, also, to change its priorities.
The main aims and goals of APRRA are: 1. Permanent monitoring of the Rights of the Refugees from Abkhazeti (Abkhazia); 2. Organisation of the humanitarian actions for the Refugees from Abkhazia; 3. Participation in the events on the problems of Abkhazia, rezolution of the Abkhazian-Georgian conflict and restoration of territorial integrity of the Republic of Georgia; 4. Co-operation with the NGOs, Office of the Public Defender of Georgia and the legal Government of Abkhazia in exile, etc.
APRRA is managed by the Governing Board. The Association has more than 100 Individual Members, the Regional Working Group of Imereti-Samegrelo, the Working Group of Abkhazia in exile (based in Tbilisi) and the Tbilisi Working Group. APRRA has also Representatives in: the USA, the Netherlands and the Czeh Republic. The Office of APRRA is based in Tbilisi.
The Association is registered by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Georgia (Registration No: 00036/12/0018).
APRRA is a Member Organization of the International Peace Bureau (IPB, Switzerland) and the Coalition of NGOs for the International Criminal Court (CICC, USA-Netherlands).
In 2004-2007 the Association was a Partner Organization of the Regency of Lomar Foundation (ROL, USA-Germany). The Chairman of the Board of Governors of APRRA, Dr. Levan Z. Urushadze was a Representative (Humanitarian Ambassador) of the ROL in Georgia (2004-2007). In 2007 on the base of the ROL and some other humanitarian organizations was established a new International NGO: The Green Cross International Organization (under the rulling of the St. Lazarus Order).

In 2005 1000 women from more than 150 countries were jointly nominated for the famous Nobel Peace Prize. The official nomination was handed in to the Nobel Peace Prize Committee in Oslo in January 2005. Among official nominees were 5 representatives of the Republic of Georgia: Mrs. Nino Burjanadze, Mrs. Nino Javakhishvili, Mrs. Irina Yanovskaya, Mrs. Tiina Ilsen and the Chair of APRRA, Mrs. Tsisana D.
