Orange County 'N' Gineers Railroad Club Inc.
Thank you for visiting the webpage for the ORANGE COUNTY N"GINEERS modular, 'N' Scale model railroad club. Our club was started on September 15, 1974, a year after NTRAK was formed. NTRAK was started by a group of modelers who were trying to promote model railroading and who felt that the best way to model a complete scene is with 'N' Scale (1:160). The NTRAK orginization is known worldwide.
By building your module to NTRAK specifications, you can use your module with other clubs all over the United States. There are even some groups in other countries who build NTRAK modules. We, as clubs or individuals, often join other modular 'N' Scale clubs, in order to enlarge the layout for special public, or NTRAK conventions.
At this time, club meetings are held at the member's homes and rotate throughout the year. The meeting are usually held on the third Saturday of the month at about 9:30AM, and quarterly at the Fullerton Train Station. We usually do not run trains unless there is some sort of clinic, the individual has some of his modules set up, or has a private layout running. The meetings are loosely structured to talk about past or upcoming shows, needs for improvement, or is a business meeting. Meetings usually are about two hours long. We presently do not have a permanent layout or housing for a layout at the present time. If you know of, or own such a place, WE ARE INTERESTED!!! The only time we run trains are at the public shows. The number of shows vary from year to year.
Our layout operates on DC (Direct Current), at approximately 12 Volts. We are in the incorporation stage of DCC (Digital Command Control). We are starting out slow and hope to use one track at first, and then possibly branch out from there. Our requirements are minimal. There is an initiation fee of $5.00 and the dues are $5.00 per month or $50.00 per year dues after that. Your Initiation fee will be returned to you upon the completion of your first module. The basic cost of building a module is approximately $125.00. The cost includes wood, hardware, basic electrical components, plastic finger barrier and the material for the show curtains. The cost of the scenery varies on what, and how extesively you are going to model the scene.
You must help set up or tear down to run trains. Due to the high cost of equipment and electrical hazards, fragile nature of the train components, and scenery, no one under the age of ten will be permitted inside the layout without constant supervision. We highly recommend the NTRAK "How-To" book to help you build your module for club/NTRAK use. After acceptance into the club, you may purchase one of these books for $6.50.
