Dave Planakis called an informal get together for burgers and comraderie on belhalf of Eric Hoffman (aka the German) who was in from Ohio to get his Merkur fixed. Eric wanted to party a bit so Dave called on NOVAMOG for a BBQ. And what a turn out it was with over 20 Merkurs in attendance (not counting the cars on the lot in for repairs). It was great warm up for Carlisle next month!
The party started about noon. Dave Compton fired up the grill and "quickly" burned burgers and dogs. All kidding aside, the food was great and the wating line was long for second and third helpings. This may have been due to the fact that Merknuts are big eaters and not due to Dave Compton's culinary expertise (you want an intercooler with that well done burger?).
There were too many Merkheads to list them all but suffice it to say at least five states and the District of Columbia were represented. Some of the long haulers were Jarvis Atkins from Norfolk, VA, Larry Davis from Virginia Beach, Bob Barnett from Yorktown, VA, Greg Larsen from West Virginia, and even Jason Yancy made the trip from Winchester, VA. (not a long drive for Jason, just amazing that he made it to a meet). At least four Merknuts arrived from Maryland including samuri Eric Scuderi in his APU (Advanced Performance Upgrade) Red XR recently returned to the road and even Bian Boyer made it. Then too was Steve Duchene with is road warrior XR which we hadn't seen since Carlisle last year!
The party began to break up about 2:30 but many more stayed on for the comraderie and bench racing. Another fantasic NOVAMOG and Hartwood Automotive meet. Thanks Dave P for your hospitality and always great nature. David Planakis Hartwood Automotive 540-752-2300 www.hartwoodautomotive.com
