Started in 1983, in a home on Ellice Avenue, the church has grown and moved to its present location at 514 Maryland Street (between Ellice and Sargent Avenues). The church is a member of the Manitoba Baptist Association and has been supported by that Association since 1983.
From the beginning, we have been focused on having a diverse and practical range of ministries in our community. We emphasized the importance of our members being involved in the community. As a result, even for the small group that we are, our members and attenders are involved in over 50 different groups and agencies serving Winnipeg and other areas.
Each person is encouraged to be involved with people and groups based on their personal interests and giftings. About 80% of our attenders live in the community immediately around the church, and about 65% of our attenders live below the "poverty line."
Our own life, our church - and our neighbourhood - poses some challenges. We all have struggles. But none excuse us from being involved with others in a way that allows us to experience and express God's love and power to change people and circumstances.
Part of our love for our community involves serving the neighbourhood - and the city - regardless of whether people have any interest in church. Friendship and service are offered without any condition or pressure to come to church..
We have started a number of community ministries, ranging from men's & women's groups, to a small employment cooperative, a housing renovation ministry, a property management ministry, and a community development group.
We continually try to adjust our ministries to match the needs and abilities of our members. Where we can't undertake a ministry ourselves, we try to seek out partners with whom we can meet our objectives.
