The last two weeks of school are upon us and they are very exciting weeks in music class.
Kindergarten and First grade have been listening to and acting out thethe story of The Three Little Pigs ( My version adds music and sound effects). We have listened to and acted out "Jimbo's Lullaby," which is an orchestral piece written from a father to his child. This week we are listening to a play called The Beatle's Coat; next week we will be adding instruments to the songs that accompany this play.
Second grade has been listening to an orchestral piece entitled "In the Hall of the Mountain King." This piece of music tells a story of a young man who finds himself in a bit of trouble because of his tricks. We have also been working on a play of The Three Billy Goats Gruff . We add singing and instruments to the play as we act it out in our classroom.
Third through fifth grades are still working on Music Around the World and have been visiting such places as Cuba, Mexico, Paru and Central America.
I encourage you to check the Asheville Citizen-Times during the summer for concert events that your children would enjoy. Also, be open to a variety of music and play your favorite style as well as some you have not really listened to in the past. Also, check the musical section of the video store for children's musicals |
