| As the sexy blond high-school heartbreaker in Carrie
(1976), Allen attracted attention not only from fans but from the film's
director, Brian De Palma, who married her. He later showcased her comic
talents in his Home Movies (1979), subjected her to a slasher in Dressed
to Kill (1980), and entangled her in mayhem for Blow Out (1981). Allen,
who started out in TV commercials, got her first break in The Last Detail
(1973), and after Carrie landed lively roles in I Wanna Hold Your Hand
(1978) and Steven Spielberg's 1941 (1979). But her divorce from De Palma
seems to have also separated her from good movies, and her lackluster
performances have belied the promise she showed early on. |
