| Naimee & Aurora at Giga, Germany, 2001 (Promotion for "Ordinary World") Giga: Hi! Aurora featuring Naimee Coleman. All: Hello! Giga: Hello, how are you doing? Naimee: Fine, thank you. Giga: Where did you just arrive from? Simon: We've just come in from Cologne, something on Viva. Giga: Oh, we don't know that channel...no no no...no, that doesn't matter! Is this your first time in Germany then? Naimee: It's not my first time. I was here a couple of years ago, travelled around to lots of different cities very quickly and got to see very little of them, but...got to go to Bonn and Hamburg and Leipzig...Berlin. Giga: And how about you guys? Sasha: I've been to Frankfurt before. I went for Dorian Gray, the club that was beneath the airport, which was great. Giga: So, what's your impression? You said you didn't get chance to see a lot but... Naimee: Yeah but you know I had great food here. Very good food...fantastic strudel...we're on the quest for strudel this evening! If you are strudel, watch out cos we're coming to get you! Giga: I was looking for your website...Aurora doesn't have one yet...you're working on it? Simon: Well it's just so good... Sasha: It's coming out with our album. Giga: But Naimee, you have got your own website that we can look at. Naimee: I do. Giga: Your music going on there...did you have any input into the design and the look of the site? Naimee: Yeah I had a little bit of input on it. I'm computer illiterate so I was able to go "make that thingy do that and that little thingy do this and I have absolutely no idea how any of it works, but it's exciting cos I can hear my song on it, so my mammy was very excited with it! Giga: The song that you guys did together, "Ordinary World"...can you tell me a little bit of what it's about...this "Ordinary World", is it about everyday life? What is it about? Simon: Yeah... Naimee: No, you go! Sasha: No, you! Simon: Me?! It's actually a Duran Duran song that we covered. I think the essence of the song is it's about someone trying to find their way back to an ordinary world.... Sasha: After being dumped. Simon: After being ditched. Naimee: It's a very sad song. Really sad. Simon: A love song. Giga: What made you pick it up? Simon: We always loved the tune. I loved the original. I was in the States when it was a big hit and we thought one day we'll do that, and it just happened with the right timing and with Naimee we'd met up and that's what we did. Naimee: He's lying! You know Simon Le Bon, he came to the three of us in a dream the same night at the same time and told us we should do the track and that it would make us fulfil our lives, and that's really why we did it! Giga: I truly believe that! Okay, a lot more dreams to come in the next couple of hours...come into the chat and talk to them on Giga.de Giga: "Ordinary World" is your second release...and how long have you known each other? Sasha: I've known Simon...too long! Probably...it's got to be 10 years. We were in another band before and we left the other project before forming Aurora. Our first single was "Hear You Calling" which was about a year and a half ago. Giga: So when you sort of split and did other stuff, was that because you had different kind of taste of music, or how come you sort of joined again after such a long time? Sasha: The other two guys we were with decided to do other kinds of music and I think it was just a sort of natural progression for me and Simon to work together...he can't get rid of me! Giga: Naomi [sic] what was your first impression when you first met these two guys? Naimee: Oh, I tried to run out of the studio but they'd locked all the doors and windows...no, terribly attractive, terribly talented...no, brilliant guys. The first time I met Simon and Sasha was the day we recorded "Ordinary World"...I hadn't met them before that so I was very nervous because I didn't know what was going to happen but they were brilliant. They were brilliant to work with and we had great fun travelling together cos when I do my own solo stuff I get quite lonely cos there's nobody to share the fun and excitement with, but now I have someone to share it with so it's great fun. Giga: So how come you actually hooked up...was this organised by someone? Naimee: Well we're on the same record label and I had finished my album and Simon and Sasha were looking to remix one of the songs on the album and they heard my voice and they had the "Ordinary World" backing track done and they needed a singer and asked me to sing on it, so I was very lucky really to get asked to do it. Giga: Usually when you're a featuring kind of project I would think you don't know these kind of people that well, like you said you only met them when you started recording...I mean what is it like now? Do you hang out? Naimee: Well we live in different countries, I live in Ireland so we don't see as much of each other as we could possibly...why don't you ever come and visit me?! Simon: You never invite us! Naimee: I'm inviting you now! Everyone, come to my house! Simon: We'll all go to Naimee's house! Tea at Naimee's! Giga: So what is your idea of fun? Is it...a lot of people would think drinking?! Naimee: Drinking and Twister....I'm fantastic at Twister! Giga: I think it's a lot of fun but I'm thinking it's more of a girl thing, Twister... Sasha: I think it's cool for both sexes. Giga: Okay well we may play a bit of Twister later on, so stay with us! |
