Dear Diary:
I was staying at the Tilted Tankert, Herb was at the church, and Raven was at the Prefect's place. A messenger appears at my door and informs me that Morgorath wants to speak with me. After quick play of hand and mouth (I was in a good mood, not:( the messenger left with more of my coin.
I arrived at Morgorath's place and in his usual abrupt manner he lets me in and has me sit on a chair. He goes on about how some halfling bandits obtained his precious package (about the size of a bread box) and then informs me he would like it back (it is most likely trapped with magic). He is willing to teach me a new spell for the packages safe return and then abruptly kicks me out and slams the door behind him.
I went back to the rest at the Tilted Tankert and informed them about the potential of raiding some bandits and getting a package back for the old man. They agreed to help me both Raven and Herb. Unfortunately, Gregor was not available so we left without him.
We traveled 3 days without encounter, but on the 3rd night two barbarians attacked us. Unfortunately, Raven was not able to awaken us prior to being attacked and seriously injured. It was a vicious fight, especially since we were virtually unarmed and definitely unarmored! Interestingly enough Raven stayed up in a the tree throwing daggers at them, GRRR! Herb informed us they were cultists of Theratin a dead deity from the far north. Somehow they were far from the camp and were hungry and thought we would be easy prey. Well I guarantee that one of them with the burning ember in their loin will never think we are easy prey again, bahahaha!
Thankfully, Herb was alright and he worked some real miracles with his deity in our behalf, so the next morning we were off, but that evening we were attacked again by six orcs! Damn we sure were unlucky. They had us in a real bind with two on top of us, two off in the dark, and another two across from them in the dark. We were getting arrows, swords, and not being able to see our enemy really put us in a bad place. Fortunately, I was able to put two to sleep, but Raven was just a little too close to the action (I think I need to be more careful about were I place that area effect spell). Well, needless to say I dashed on over and gave her a swift kick to wake her up (trust me it was not fancy, but definitely desperate). She goes on over to help out Herb and I tossed out a dancing light spell to try and illuminate were the arrows were coming from . Unfortunately, Herb was really taking a pounding. Finally, I was able to illuminate the other two orcs and Raven dispatches one and Herb dispatches another. Then Raven dashes on over and dispatches one of the archers and I managed to kill one.
The next day Herb uses the majority of his healing on himself, otherwise we would be done for, but both Raven and myself were still injured. We marched on off on to the halflings camp. We come across two dead halflings near a fire, but the rest of the camp appeared to be deserted. I went all scout like hiding behind rocks and check on one of them with Raven following. Unknown to me a halfling behind a tree steps out, but somehow he missed Raven and Raven attempts to kick him but misses. Fortunately, the halflings aim was as good as Raven's. Then out of the nowhere nine more halflings appeared out of the water, trees, hidden pits, and more. Needless to say we were all surprised. Fortunately, the gods were smiling on us and we survived. I managed to place six of them under a sleep spell. Raven kills one and herb moves over on to another. Raven dashes out after another, but Herb was struggling with one of them. I was struggling with getting a better shot, but was unable to connect. Raven dispatches with hers and moves to help Herb who was in a death match with the last one. Meanwhile, I began dispatching with the rest, but I kept one alive. Unfortunately, one got away. I tied him up and I let him twist in the wind. Finally, they were able to kill the last one and they joined me. Raven let him go after he quickly divulged some information to us about the two ogres that attacked them and took off with the box.
We tracked them down to a small cavern. We waited till morning after Herb was able to patch himself up better. Then we went in. It didn't take long we spotted one and Raven moved in to get a better position when the second appeared right next to her (man that is the second time that has happened). Meanwhile Herb moves in to help support Raven and I put the first one to sleep. Then in a blindingly fast maneuver the second one moves over on the first one and kicks it right while I was searching for the box hoping to get out quickly without loosing one of my colleagues. No such luck. So I leapt over the downed ogre prior to it getting up and and stabbed it in the throat. How was I to know that ogres don't have a lot of fleshing stuff there. He snatched me right around the throat and began to strangle the shit out of me. Needless to say I don't know what was going on with either Raven or Herb. I did however manage to stick my fist in his eye which just angered him more and nearly made me unconscious. Finally, I was able to reach my dagger and stab him in the eye and somehow I got free, thank the gods. As I lay there gasping for breath somehow I stumbled on the box which I miraculously went past. During that time both Herb and Raven managed to dispatch both of them.
We managed to get back, but somehow we were off track and luckily spotted some soldier along with the sergeant near some mining stuff. We followed them back to the keep and they mysteriously entered the back. We had to break off to avoid being noticed. If only we had a ranger or a rogue we could have found out more. We went our separate ways. I went back to Morgorath and he taught me how to cast Magic Missile. He even managed to teach me Shield with further training, although he bleed me dry and now I am entirely broke. Fortunately, Raven managed to spot me some extra cash just to feed me, but now I have to find some quick cash to get more spell materials, rope, and another large sack.
Well that was a most interesting nine days and more.
