After the events of 911, President George W. Bush called on the children of America to each donate a dollar to the children of Afghanistan. These Fourth Grade Social Studies students at West Carthage Elementary in NY decided not to just ask their parents for a dollar; they made patriotic pins that they “sold” for a donation. Through their efforts, they were able to send President Bush a check for $240. They approached the principal, the Superintendent of schools, their local representative and one of the state Senators and each of them gladly donated to the effort.

Students are hoping to receive a dollar donation for the pin as their contribution to President Bush's Afghan Children initiative. After hearing statistics about these children and seeing pictures from the internet, students are eager to do what they can to help.
