Konig Wolf RS (Ranger Special) is the latest custom I've completed. This is the result of several hours of work spread out over a few months. I had originally intended to do three custom Konig Wolves as part of the same RS unit, but after some thought I decided against it.
Anyway, this is a Hasbro Konig Wolf kit with a custom paint job, weapon and a few modifications. The weapon is made from the cannons of a Geno Saurer/Breaker combined with part of a Shadow Fox weapon cowling and the engine of an X-wing model kit I had lying around. After assembling the cannon and mounting it I discovered that the sniper "goggles" wouldn't flip back all the way without raising the cannons almost vertical. So I did a little cutting and trimming and with some model cement, moved the goggles to a permanent mount just behind the neck. I also glued the struts from the goggles in place as radio antennae. This actually went through 2 different paint schemes (the first being a bright green that didn't work at all). I picked up some olive drab and did a repaint. I didn't apply as many stickers to this custom as it's supposed to be part of an elite covert unit and they don't usually carry many identifying markings. All in all I'm quite pleased with the way this turned out.
Battle Story
During the height of the Helic / Guylos war, a small group of highly skilled Helic Zoid pilots were reassigned to an elite unit known as Rangers. The primary mission of the Rangers was infiltration, reconnosaince, and search and destroy. Using the latest in Zoid technology, the Rangers were given the newest Zoid available (at that time): the Konig Wolf.
While most of the Konig Wolves assigned to the Ranger squadrons were outfitted with the standard and mass-produced CP-22 Dual Sniper Rifle and CP-23 AZ5 Missile Pods, a few squadron commanders and veteran Rangers were issued experimental weaponry. The unit shown here is a personalized and modified RS Commanders Unit. It features dedicated radio antennae (located on the head behind the ears), fixed and upgraded scanner/sensor package (mounted behind the neck) and the attack boosters from a Command Wolf CP-04 Attack Unit (mounted on the hind legs). The most unique addition to this particular unit is the Charged Particle Pulse Cannon (CPPC) unit. Helic weapon designers, eager to copy the Imperial CPC technology, used a captured Geno Saurer to build the Republics first charged particle weapon. Mounted inbetween the Geno Saurer's standard 120mm cannons is a modified charged particle generator and storage unit. While the standard CPC builds up a large charge for one powerful shot, the Helic CPPC uses a battery type system to build up and store charged particles. The CPPC generator continuously collects charge particles for as long as the weapon is needed, thus allowing a much faster rate of fire. There is a catch however. The CPPC packs less of a punch than it's Imperial cousin. The lower power allows the Zoid carrying it to not require footlocks, thus enabling a much more maneuvarable and powerful weapon. The CPPC also uses the excess stored charged particles to be channeled into the E-shield emmiters on each side of the cannons.
