Chicano Moratorium Committee 2002
Photos by Michael Sedano
Aztlannet's airwaves carried excited messages,"I remember back when
. . ." Memories of Boyle Heights segued into memories of the Chicano
Moratorium. I posted an open invitation that interested folks were welcome
to the house to discuss. Could something productive come of the energy generated,
was more to this than sentimental reminiscence?
Mando, Rosalio, Ralph, Cecelia, Guillermo, and Michael met on June 12. Rosalio
brought a box of memorabilia, Michael played some Bob Dylan records, it was
1968 again on the turntable. We agreed an event commemorating the 1970 Chicano
Moratorium, Chicano history generally, would be worthwhile. Rosalio showed
some of his photos and newspaper collection from his youth.
A week later, Rosalio would meet at Ave50 Studio with Kathy Gallegos and
Vibiana Aparicio-Chamberlin. Kathy had invited interested parties to have
an event at her space. Rosalio and Kathy posted invitations on Aztlannet to
assemble at the studio for an organizing meeting the next Saturday.
