MATERIALS:
Worsted weight chenille yarn, 4 oz (260 yds, 120 grs) in color of choice.
Size G aluminum crochet hook, or size required for gauge.
TRIMMINGS:
Plastic canvas, one 6" diameter round
35 round pony beads or donut beads (optional)
Size 16 tapestry needle (for sewing the beads)
GAUGE:
4 sc = 1"
4 sc rows = 1"
INSTRUCTIONS:
Bottom:
Starting at center of bottom, ch 4, join to form a ring.
NOTE*** Bag is worked in continuous rnds. Do not join; mark beg of each rnd.
RND 1 (right side): Ch 1, 8 sc in ring.
RND 2: 2 sc in each sc - 16 sc.
RND 3: (sc in next sc, 2 sc in next sc)8 times - 24 sc.
RND 4: (sc in next 2 sc, 2 sc in next sc)8 times - 32 sc.
RND 5: sc in each sc.
RND 6: (sc in next 3 sc, 2 sc in next sc)8 times - 40 sc.
RND 7: Rep round 5.
RND 8: (sc in next 4 sc, 2 sc in next sc)8 times - 48 sc.
RND 9: Rep round 5.
RND 10: (sc in next 5 sc, 2 sc in next sc)8 times - 56 sc.
RND 11: Rep round 5.
RND 12: Working in back loops only, (sc in next 6 sc, 2 sc in next sc)8 times - 64 sc.
Body:
RND 1: Working through both loops, sc in each sc.
RNDS 2 - 26: Rep round 1.
RND 27 (eyelet round): sl st in next sc, ch 4 (counts as a trc) trc in each remaining sc, join in 4th ch of beg-4.
RND 28: ch 1, sc in same ch as joining and in each trc. Do not join.
RNDS 29 - 32: Rep round 5 of bottom. At end of rnd 32, join in 1st sc.
RND 33: ch 1, reverse sc (work from left to right) in each sc. Join.
Finish off & weave in ends.
Cord: (make 2)
ch 140. sl st in 2nd ch from hook and in each rem ch. Finish off leaving 6" length for joining.
FINISHING:
Step 1: Cut plastic canvas into a 5 1/4" diameter circle (or as needed to fit bottom), insert in bottom of bag.
Step 2: Starting at inside of bag at joining of eyelet rnd, weave one cord through to outside of bag, over next 4 trc, and back to inside; continue weaving over 3 trc and under 3 trc. Join ends inside bag and sl st together. Weave 2nd cord at the 1st cord's joining and weave under opposite eyelets; join ends inside bag and sl st together.
Optional Beads:
Cut one yd length of yarn; thread into tapestry needle; starting on rnd 18 from inside bag, anchor yarn by drawing through several stitches; *bring needle through to outside of bag; thread bead; make 1" loop by wrapping yarn over index finger, insert needle under and through loop, then back to inside of bag on opposite end of st; sk next 3 sts; rep from * around. Finish off and weave in ends. Repeat beaded loops on rnd 21.
