You
are about to share in our adventure studying the Monk Parakeet.
We
are lucky enough to have a community of Monks living on the campus of Brooklyn
College where we are students.
Monks
are a high visibility exotic species that captivate people (adults and
children) upon their discovery. This makes them ideal for an investigation.
Our
mission is to have fun while we:
-Engage
in a traditional experimental design.
-Provide
a model investigation that our elementary students can use as a guide to their
own inquiry.
-Connect
this with an interesting element that sheds light on a more sophisticated
quality of animal behavior, experimental design, or some evidence of
interaction.
-
Identify the challenges that we encountered to present a more real
understanding of conducting studies in the life sciences.
So
come on in and have fun with us, as we explore environmental studies through
our Monk investigation.
