ANDY KAUFMAN
1949-1984
Andrew Geoffrey Kaufman came into this world on January 17, 1949, and left us on May 16, 1984.  What he created between those dates is a remarkable and unique legacy that will live on forever in the hearts of those he touched.
While it is impossible to define what he did, some describe
Andy Kaufman as a song-and-dance man.  Others label him a performance artist, and many simply refer to him as a comedic genius.  Of course, there are still those who are at a total loss for ANY description of the late performer, which is perfectly fine.  Andy would have wanted it that way.

SONGS IN THE KEY OF "EEE-BI-DA"
by R.E.M.
"Man on the Moon" "The Great Beyond"
I've watched the stars fall silent from your eyes
All the sights that I have seen
I can't believe that I believed I wish that you could see
There's a new planet in the solar system
There is nothing up my sleeve

I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs
I'm tossing up punch lines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground

In all this talk of time- talk is fine
But I don't want to stay around
Why can't we pantomime just close our eyes & sleep
Sweet dreams
Me and you with wings on our feet

I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs
I'm tossing up punch lines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground
I'm breaking through- I'm bending spoons
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom
I'm looking for answers from the Great Beyond

I want the hummingbirds and dancing bears
The sweetest dreams of you
I'm looking to the stars
I'm looking to the moon

I'm pushing an elephant up the stairs
I'm tossing up punch lines that were never there
Over my shoulder a piano falls
Crashing to the ground
I'm breaking through- I'm bending spoons
I'm keeping flowers in full bloom
I'm looking for answers from the great,
Answers from the great,

Mott the Hoople and the game of life
Andy Kaufman in the wrestling match
Monopoly, 21, checkers, and chess
Mr. Fred Blassie in the breakfast mess
Let's play Twister, let's play risk
I'll see you in heaven if you make the list

Now Andy did you hear about this one
Tell me are you locked in the punch
Andy are you goofin' on Elvis (hey baby)
Are we losing touch

If you believe- They put a man on the moon
Man on the moon
If you believe- There's nothing up his sleeve
Then nothing is cool

Moses went walking with the staff of wood
Newton got beaned by the apple good
Egypt was troubled by the horrible asp
Mr. Charles Darwin had the gall to ask

Now Andy did you hear about this one
Tell me are you locked in the punch
Andy are you goofin' on Elvis (hey baby)
Are you having fun

If you believe- They put a man on the moon
Man on the moon
If you believe- There's nothing up his sleeve
Then nothing is cool

Here's a little agit for the never-believer
Here's a little ghost for the offering
Here's a truck stop instead of St. Peter's
Mr. Andy Kaufman's gone wrestling

WORKS OF THE HEART
"A thing of beauty is a joy forever"
"This Friendly World"
by Fabian Forte
In this friendly, friendly world
With each day so full of joy
Why should any heart be lonely
The world is such a wonderful place to wander through
When you have someone you love to wander along with you
"The Extreme Success"
"Dear Andy"
by Andy Kaufman
by Tracii Hanes
I used to know a man
There was a man I knew
Who was deeply loved by many
But understood by few.

He was clearly a genius
Ahead of his time
A complicated person
With a complicated mind.

His eyes were bright
And his smile like sunshine
His face always reflected
The love he felt inside.

He made all the people laugh
With everything that he did
Because making people happy
Is the reason that he lived.

To define him is impossible
Yet many people tried
And the world was changed forever
On the day that he died.

We miss you, Andy.
Mr. X was a failure so far,
but hadn't had a chance yet,
for he had only started.
Mr. X is a playwrite;
Mr. X is a poet.
Mr. X is both.
He wrote a poem,
and put it in his play.
It got to be promoted.
And it got to be produced.
It was opening night.
Mr. X was very happy.
With all his friends to come & see,
the stage with actors,
the theater sold out.
It was the largest success
of plays that played.
At end, they called him up.
He then took a bow.
The applause was deafening,
and Mr. X went off.
He put his hand in his pocket,
and took out his gun.
He had the broadest smile of anyone,
as he shot into his head.
He was Dead!
"One More Song for You"
by Andy Kaufman
Well it's time to say good-bye
It's been good having you so near
Although I have to leave; it's the end
I'll always be stayin' right here
So my friends good-bye
It's just about that time
Wish that I could do just one more song for you
