Fauxquets - female Hen Harrier & Great Sp Woodpecker in afternoon. Claire Mare - Green Sandpiper. Airport - 3 Lapwings Lihou - Snowy Owl present in afternoon Pleinmont - Snowy Owl seen late afternoon. Fauxquets Valley - 2 adult and a juvenile Buzzard today indicating successful breeding at last. Port Soif - Fan-tailed Warblers still. Confirmation today that a pair of Great Spotted Woodpeckers have bred at a site on the outskirts of St. Peter Port - which is (as far as I know) the first breeding record for the island. The Fan-tailed Warblers and Snowy Owl still present Lihou - Snowy Owl still present Icart - a Hobby. An unseasonal male Siskin in a St. Sampsons garden. Pleinmont - 1 Merlin. Mount Row - Great Spotted Woodpecker Kings Mills - Honey Buzzard over today. Hobby over St. Andrews. Pleinmont - female Merlin. Lihou - Snowy Owl still present. A male Black-headed Bunting visiting feeders in a garden near Doyle Monument, Jerbourg this morning (present since Sunday). [Snowy Owl still on Lihou on Sunday] Fauxquets - singing Firecrest. Port Soif - Fan-tailed Warblers still present. [Painted Ladies still passing through in heavy numbers this morning but slowed down a lot in the afternoon] Havilland Hall - 2 male Golden Orioles early morning, plus a Great Spotted Woodpecker. [a massive influx of Painted Ladies today with spot-counts suggesting in excess of 50,000 insects flying North through the island today]. The wandering Snowy Owl was seen off St. Martins Point in the evening today. Le Villocq - Hobby today Le Villoq, Castel - a Black Kite drifted over at about 1230. In the evening an Osprey near Talbot Valley. Herm - the Snowy Owl has been seen on the beaches and islets off Herm both today and on 13th May. Grand Pre - a Purple Heron present today. Port Soif - Fan-tailed Warblers still. Rocquaine - Curlew Sandpiper below Imperial. Pleinmont - Whinchat. Claire Mare - 2 Greenshank. Vazon - 1 Knot Grand Pre - Bittern still present. Jerbourg - Coal Tit trapped today. Lihou - Snowy Owl still present today. L'Eree - 2 Avocet on beach this evening. Herm - Honey Buzzard over at 1230. Pleinmont - 2 Grasshopper Warblers, 2 Whinchat, 3 Spotted Flycatcher, 2 Redstart, Cuckoo. Rue des Bergers - Grasshopper Warbler. La Moye - Hobby. Port Soif - Fan-tailed Warblers still. Also a few hundred Bar-tailed Godwits moving through during the day. Female Scaup seen briefly at Pembroke. Pied Flycatcher and Wood Warbler seen in St. Peter Port. No news has been sent in this week at all. It seemed quiet during the week but there were plenty of migrants around this morning, and judging from the overnight forecast it will be more of the same tomorrow. Old Aerodrome - Little Ringed Plover. Lots of Whimbrel and a few Swifts arrived today. Mount Row, SPP - Honey Buzzard over West today. L'Eree Shingle Bank - 2 Blue-headed Wagtails. The elusive second Snowy Owl was found at the Reservoir late morning and took up residence in a plouughed field along the lane opposite Mont Varouf School. Fan-tailed Warblers still present at Port Soif. L'Eree Sh. Bank - 4 Bar-tailed Godwit & 12 Whimbrel. Grande Mare - Cuckoo calling today. Grandes Havres - 7 Whimbrel today. Fort Doyle - Hoopoe still present. Fort Doyle - Ring Ouzel. Talbot Valley - Hen Harrier & Swift. There were Grasshopper Warblers at Grandes Rocques and Fort Hommet this morning. Fort Doyle - 2 Redstart and Hoopoe seen at 1130. Fort le Marchant - 8 Ring Ouzels. Fort Hommet - 2 Redstart. Port Soif - Fan-tailed Warblers still. Rue des Hougues, SA - Blue-headed Wagtail. Fort le Marchant - a Hoopoe present late morning, moving to Fort Doyle early afternoon, where there was also Lesser Whitethroat and 2 or 3 Redstart. Pleinmont - Redstart. Grand Pre - Bittern calling again late afternoon. Pleinmont - Dotterel (Mont Herault), 3 Ring Ouzels, Fieldfare, Golden Plover & Grasshopper Warbler. Pleinmont - 1 Ring Ouzel. Lihou Headland - 1 Ring Ouzel. Vale Pond - 3 Common Sandpipers & a Green Sandpiper. Pleinmont - 6 Grasshopper Warblers, Merlin, Redstart and 60 Wheatears. Fort le Crocq - 2 Whimbrel. [The Lihou Snowy Owl was still present over the Easter weekend and one was reported on Herm last Wednesday. A satellite-tagged Osprey named 'Nimrod' was migrating over Jethou at midday yesterday - click here for details]] Pleinmont - few migrants today but included a Merlin, Whitethroats and a Redstart. Claire Mare - Reed Warbler. A Red Kite flew over Baubigny at about 4:20, and was also seen over Camp du Roi and the Heritage Walk nature trail, before going SW over Pleinmont at 4:50. Grand Pre - the Bittern showed well from the hide. This afternoon, an Osprey through the North of the island. Claire Mare - Sedge Warbler, House Martin + other hirundines. Port Soif - Fan-tailed Warblers still present. Marais Nord - Sedge Warbler singing Rue des Hougues - Yellow Wagtail. Small arrival of Willow Warblers on island today. Lihou - Snowy Owl still present (also Alderney bird still present on 3rd April). Fan-tailed Warbler still at Port Soif. Les Tielles - an Osprey flew East along south coast early morning. Pleinmont - a Rook seen today. The Snowy Owl visited Pleinmont in the evening. Pleinmont - a male Redstart at Chatsworth. [Snowy Owl still present on Alderney] |
