LTD History 1975-78

In 1975, LTD received yet another facelift. The 302 was only available in places with less restrictive emissions laws, not California or high altitude areas, , and the 351 W was standard for sedans and LTD wagons. The LTD Country Squire had the 400 standard and a 460, optional. The hideaway headlights were back in style (only for Landaus and Country Squire wagons). Chevy and Dodge were in full control of the police car and taxi market. In 1977 Chevy downsized the Caprice from a wheelbase of 121" to 114". GM then sold it's Impala (the non-luxury version of the Caprice) to most Police and taxi companies around the country, staking it's claim in the municpal market. The LTD was still at 121". This style lasted until 1979. The new LTD II was a smaller version of the LTD based on a Torino/Elite platform sharing the chassis of the late 70s Thunderbirds. They were discontinued at the end of 1979.
