NOTE: The following questions and answers have been taken from e-mails that I have received from the G-body e-mail list on the subject of wheel and tire fit. Please forgive any spelling and grammar errors, for the most part these are direct e-mail submissions and are unedited. The e-mail list is not set up in a searchable format so it is difficult to find posts on the subjects you are researching. (Now Searcheable: Moved to YahooGroups June 2000) Compiling as many posts as I could find into one webpage was the best thing I could think of to make it easy on us.

CAUTION: In order to squeeze those fat wheels and tires on your ride and gain the ultimate fit, the best rule is to measure, measure, and measure again before laying out your hard earned green.

BIGGEST TIRE ON A MALIBU

QUESTION: Does anyone know what is the biggest tire & wheel that can be put on the rear of a 1978-1981 Malibu coupe without any cutting at all? ANSWER #1: I'm running 28x11.5 ET Streets with 8.5" wheels w/ 3.375 back spacing. No cutting or rolling and I have 1/2" per side with no problems. I think you could fit the Hooser 28x11.5 which is 29" tall and has a 1.2" wider footpring than the ET Street. Hope this helps. ANSWER #2: I have the 28x12.5x15 M/T ET Streets on my car. The finder lips have been rolled but the frame rails have not been notched or anything. Mine are on a 15x8 weld draglite rims with 3.5" of back spacing. ANSWER #3: I have an '81 'bu and I am running a 10"wide tire for the track. If you are running on the street use a 275/60/15 on a 15x8 rim with a 3 1/2" back space rim and you won't have any problems. ANSWER #4: 68-72 chevelle 12 bolt 5.5 BS and a 15x8 rim worked for me and I used a 1/4" spacer ******************************************************************************** Go to Page 2
