I like lot of different cars, but this page is about Audis. I like these German cars in particular.
I don't have very many pictures of my cars, and even fewer of them scanned, but here's two of them. There will be more coming.
This was my daily driver until recently, an '86 Coupe GT. I wrecked this one. Here are some pictures of what the interior looked like after I stripped most of the guts out of it. Notice how the transmission tunnel is crooked. This is because the tranny wanted to stay in the same point in space, while the rest of the car was rapidly moving left. It was a pretty hard hit. I had hoped to have some pictures ofthe outside of it posted, but it turns out either the camera wasn't working or (probably more likely and really sucks) the film wasn't loaded in the camera properly for what I thought was the whole roll of 24 frames. :-(
My project car, an '85 4000S Quattro (4ksq).
I used to have a different Coupe GT. I sold it, and the new owner promptly was involved in a big accident. Well, actually two accidents in a row. He is OK. (and currently owns another Audi)
What's new:
4/20/99 I removed the list of participants for the Jamex Strut Brace Group Purchase.
3/29/99 I added a link to a new Audi vendor.
3/23/99 I added a FAQ about the "Jamex Strut Brace Group Purchase". Also updated the list of participants.
3/22/99 Click Here to find out about the "Jamex Strut Brace Group Purchase".
3/8/99 Added this "What's New" section. Uploaded a bunch of pics, which will be put up later this week, perhaps.
I just stumbled upon a pic of the modifications I made to my front strut housings. I removed a section out of them, and mig welded the top threaded portion at the bottom, which allows use of shorter Scirocco struts. This is a big picture, so it may take a while to load. It's also not the clearest picture.
Here are some Audi links:There is of course an Audi manufacturer site, this is the German one.
The Quattro List is a mailing list for the discussion of Audi Quattros and two-wheel drives.
Here is a personal web site I came across that belongs to Oliver Sprenger in Europe. If you check out some of the links to German tuners, you can use this translator powered by Altavista to translate for you. It's great! Speaking of translating, you can convert between metric and imperial measurement here.
Performance parts for Audis (particularly turbos) can be found at Total Audi Performance, Intended Acceleration, and Wetterauer, among others.
Check out 2Bennett Audimotive's website. Here's a company I just found out about.
TSR Performance is a cool site in the UK with stuff for these cars.
Autobahn International (or is it called Audi Experience?) is a site I've been checking out lately. It looks like their prices are pretty decent. I didn't know Neuspeed made springs for older Audis, but I guess they do, because Autobahn International carries them.
Maybe someday soon, Ron's Parts will be able to squeeze their website out.
Parts for these cars can be expensive, if you don't know where to look. Here are some sources for parts. The Parts Connection, German Parts and Restoration, Claire Parts Express, Blaufergnugen, Wolfsport, Euroselect, and Impex. You can also look at the Quattro List Vendors Page for a comprehensive list.
4kq Turbo Conversion. Here is a recent post from a member of the Quattro List, about his experience putting a turbo motor in an 80 Quattro. And here is another post about adding a bypass valve to an ur-quattro, using factory Saab/Bosch parts. I think this also applies to other turbo cars.
If you are going to drive a U.S. spec Audi at night, you might very well be interested in obtaining some European headlights for it. If you don't, you might not be able to see at night! Browse over here to find out about a group discount that has been arranged for members of the Quattro List. I just came across the website for PUMA, a source for eurolites. They also have a special on an alternator regulator upgrade that looks like it's the same or similar to the ones linked to below.
And if you're going to upgrade your lighting, you might want to also upgrade the charging system. Here are two alternatives to upgrade the Bosch alternator in these and other cars that use them: You can replace the regulator with a Motorcraft external one, all ready-made with a wiring harness from Group 6 Performance , or you can do basically the same thing yourself by following these directions.
