- La
Moskitia Ecoaventuras is located in La
Ceiba on the Caribbean Coast of Honduras. We offer 1/2 day trips
of whitewater rafting, ecotours and hiking near La Ceiba. Our
multi-day expeditions are in the Moskitia or Mosquito Coast (named
after the Mosquito Indians) of Honduras, Central America - a
vast area of tropical lowland rainforest in eastern Honduras
with no road network, and only accessible by river. We are the
only company offering multi-day expeditions into this remote
area, the largest Central American reserve of tropical rainforest.
We offer whitewater rafting trips, float trips and hiking in
the rainforest jungle, marshes, mangroves and cloud forests of
the best preserved area in the Central America neotropics.
Our
10 day rafting expedition in the Rio Platano Biosphere Reserve
follows the course of the Platano River. Beginning in the river's
mountainous headwaters and concluding at its outlet at the Caribbean,
we will marvel at the exuberant tropical vegetation and exciting
rapids, and enjoy the lazy pleasures of floating through pristine
rainforest jungle. Three species of monkeys, river otters, blue
morpho butterflies and a multitude of parrots and macaws will
be our constant companions, and occasionally we cross paths with
a tapir or jaguar.
The Platano River
You can experience a trip hiking
and camping in the exuberant tropical rainforest of PICO BONITO NATIONAL
PARK located just a few minutes from our office in La Ceiba, Honduras. Only
a short drive from our office are the turbulent and exciting rapids of the Rio
Cangrejal where you can experience the excitement of half-a-day of whitewater
rafting in the lucious rainforest. We also take visitors into
the mangroves of the Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge, a rare ecosystem,
and found along the caribbean coast of Honduras and home to a Manatee population.
An ideal place for birders
to see the fantastic an unusual species of wetland birds also present are White-throated
Capucchin and Howler monkeys.

are based in the coastal port city of La Ceiba, Honduras; not only the gateway
to the Mosktia, but also with immediate access to the beautiful Rio Cangrejal
with a dramatic backdrop of rainforest covered mountains of the Pico
Bonito National Park and the Cuero y Salado Wildlife Refuge.

- IMPORTANT
these itineraries are the main guideline for our tours, however
the guide has the right to make adjustments to ensure the utmost
security and safety of the clients. Other factors may affect
the itinerary, such as sudden changes in water levels while rafting,
obstacles in the rivers, the pace of hikers, conditions of the
trails, floods and severe foul weather.
- In
all our expeditions we only use dead wood found on the riverbanks
to prepare meals. Physiological necessities are taken care in
the same way a cat does, with our folding shovel. We sleep in
tents and we normally eat a hot cooked breakfast and dinner,
while lunches are cold.
- Where
our itinerary takes us to indigenous villages, we often use local
lodging, transportation and services. In this way these local
communities also benefit from your participation in Honduran
eco-tourism.
- All
tours are offered in Spanish and English, and all eco-tours are
guided by a knowledgeable naturalist.
