Alma Mares is a keyboardist from Ocala in Florida, USA. She has released a CD album enitled "Pendulum" of her own compositions. Her collaborator on the album is Sandeep Sharma, a talented singer-lyricist from Chicago. Alma was born in Prague, Czechoslovakia (Now the Czech Republic). She has lived most of her life in Illinois where she studied piano and composition for over 15 years. Her music has received radio airplay in Chicago and on several Voice of America broadcasts to Europe where she has become well known.
Alma has sent me a copy of pendulum which is predominantly instrumental but it includes the impressive "Heartbeat" which features vocals by Sandeep. Alma performs all the music on the CD which features 14 other tracks. I've listened to CD several times and in fact it's playing now as I write. The title track "Pendulum" is a particular favourite of mine, it reminds me a little of Tangerine Dream in places. You should listen to this CD at night with your eyes closed. Alma whisks you off to other worlds with her music."
(BY TERRY KEW) We finished this month's Roundup with three pieces written by a writer new to me, Alma Mares. The first is "Dance with me" (I want to be the one). A jazz trumpet starts this atmospheric instrumental off. It reeks of late night and seedy Chicago gin joints and gangster movies. You could almost be there. It's really magical stuff. This roundup is full of surprices. "My world" follows and is just as atmospheric. No jazz trumpet this time, but stirring guitar chords and really good keyboard work. Again it reeks of the same late nights. I don't know, who this writer is, but she could earn a great living writing film soundtracks. Steve's guitar solo has just come in and it's his best performance this month. I'm almost tearful to play last track. I just don't want this to end. The final track is "Dancing in your eyes". What can I say things don't get much better, then this. This track features Pizzicato strings. It's got great guitar work from Steve Thompson. Alma Mares is a writer to be reckoned with. ALMA WANTS TO THANK BIGGEST STAR EVER IN EUROPE, MARTA KUBISOVA, FOR HER BEAUTIFUL SINGING, WHICH GAVE THE CD "THE SOUL". NATIVE AMERICAN "WHITE WOLF" also sings on the cd. THE CD IS VERY SPECIAL. "MUST HAVE!!!!"
