Infinite Flickr: The Movie

In case you got here through some other link and want to know what this is all about, or to know where the photos for this movie came from, you can find them on Flickr in the Infinite Flickr group. Go there and add your own (just be sure to read the rules first)!

The first link on each line bellow will attempt to use QuickTime in your browser to view the corresponding file. To download any of the files instead (e.g. for viewing with another player that supports MP4s such as RealPlayer, MPlayer, or the 3ivx codec with Windows Media Player), right click the corresponding "download" link and choose "save as" or "download linked file" or equivalent.

Original 11 image test (QucikTime MPEG4) 20 seconds, 3 MB download (QuickTime 6 or higher will play this)

65 image version (MPEG4 improved) 108 seconds, 21.6 MB download (QuickTime 6 or higher will play this)

65 image version (H.264 codec) 108 seconds, 11.2 MB download (QuickTime 7 will play this - it's better quality than "MPEG4 improved" despite the smaller file size)

105 image version (MPEG4 improved, 160x120, 15fps) 167 seconds, 4.1 MB download (QuickTime 6 or higher will play this)

105 image version (MPEG4 improved, 320x240, 30fps) 167 seconds, 13.8 MB download (QuickTime 6 or higher will play this)

105 image version (MPEG4 improved, 640x480, 30fps) 167 seconds, 35.1 MB download (QuickTime 6 or higher will play this)

105 image version (H.264 codec, 640x480, 30fps) 167 seconds, 19.5 MB download (QuickTime 7 will play this - it's better quality than "MPEG4 improved" despite the smaller file size)

The new 105 image version has now been posted (links above)! That's over 60% more Infinite Flickr goodness! In addition, some of the transitions have been reworked to look better (most notably rotations) and it now has some quiet music that I think fits well with the whole Infinite Flickr thing (and doesn't sound too bad when the movie is looped). The music is "Tribute" by Eric Hamilton - check out his royalty free music at www.dilvie.com.

Also of interest to some people: The media on this site is NOT hosted on GeoCities, and since I've kept the site design fairly simple it should be able to withstand up to around 1000 views per hour before hitting GeoCities dreaded bandwidth limit. But feel free to use a Coral Cache link, if you want, to access a cached version of this site.

Mac OS X 10.4 movie playing screensaver

Do you have Mac OS X Tiger and want to play a movie as a screen saver? Then here's a very basic Quartz Movie Player for Mac OS X 10.4 (1KB zip!). Unzip the file and drop the resulting MoviePlayer.qtz file into your "Library/Screen Savers" folder then open System Preferences, select Desktop & Screen Saver and choose MoviePlayer from the list. You can then use the Options... button to set the movie file to play. Unfortunately this must be entered manually as a full path rather than using a simple file browser, but what do you want from a screen saver that's less than 2 KB? For example, enter "~/Movies/MyMove.mp4" to play the MyMovie.mp4 file from the Movies folder in your home folder as your screen saver.
