Mouse Care
-Females are happiest when adopted in groups of two or more, some males are very territorial and will hurt or kill eachother if in the same cage take precaution when putting males together.
-The cage should be relatively large and cozy. I find that 10-20 gallon aquarium with a secure lid is the best choice and really is the only choice for small mice who can squeeze their heads through bars and escape.
-The best choices for bedding are aspen, Carefresh or other recycled paper product, such as Yesterday's News. Cedar, pine, and other softwoods are not good since they give off phenols which contribute to respiratory infections.
-Your mouse's cage will need regular cleanning once a week should be good, depending on how many mice you have or if you have male or female mice can make a difference
-Nesting is very important to mice. Offering them some sort of hiding place like a plastic igloo for sale at most pet supply stores. Cardboard Boxes will also do but they absorb urine and the mice sometimes chew them up, so they have to be replaced often.
-Look for food that is indicated as mouse fopd. Other types of food can cause allergies, greasy coat, malnutrition, even death
-You can serve food in a food-safe plastic, metal, ceramic, or glass dish.
- Treats for Mice
Carrots
Apple Wedges
Vegetable baby food
Fruit and oat baby food
Whole grain cereal (Cheerios etc.)
Raw Turnips
Blueberries
Dried apricots or bananas
Plain bananas
Dry enriched pasta
Low-protein dog biscuits (small ones)
-Excersise balls can be used for exploringg outside the cage without being hurt or excersise wheels for play inside the cage
