Floor Plans
The top set of floor plans show the portion of the building that was destroyed in the April 1954 fire
The second set show the school in 1995.
What the Floor Plans Tell Us
The floor plans basically tell us what the building was like in 1954 and the old age. In the basement there was art storage and an art room. The kids who rode on the bus ate in the basement in the little cafeteria.
As soon as you come in the front doors you would see the principal's office and the secretary's office. On the side of the principal was the kindergarten. On the secretary's side was the second grade. Across from second was third. Right next to third was the boy's locker room and the girl's locker room was right on the other side. Right across from kindergarten was first grade.
Where the fire burned, it was only two stories [with a basement and attic storage area] . On the second floor right in the middle was the study hall. To the right was the study hall. To the left was storage and right next to that eight grade. Acrpss from eighth was seventh grade and next to that was the boys' bathroom . The girls' bathroom was next. The Science Lab was beside the bathrooms. And that, ladies and gentlemen, is my report on the . Carthage School fire.
