| In 1992, Dayanara represented her hometown of Toa Alta in the Miss Puerto Rico pageant. As she became the titleholder, she underwent a transformation that took her very far in the Miss Universe Pageant. |
| In May 1993, Dayanara represented the island at the Miss Universe Pageant. The competition took place in Mexico City, Mexico. Dayanara was was elected Miss Universe. That year, the first runner up was Miss Colombia. The second runner up was Miss Venezuela, Milka Chulina. |

| Dayanara spent a few years in the Phillipines entertainment industry, after giving up her crown in Manila. After that she returned to P.R. where she started a brief career as a singer. She made films both in Puerto Rico and the Phillipines. She currently lives in Miami, Florida and is mother of two children. She is also evaluating offers to retake her career after a painful divorce from singer Marc Anthony. She has already starred in American Soap, "The Young and the Restless" and has modeled for Tommy Hilfiger. Dayanara has started 2005 on the right foot, participating in Univision's Premio lo Nuestro. She danced with David Bisbal and got a standing ovation when presenting an award. |
