Welcome to our DNA project web site! My name is Jim Carpenter, and I am the Project Administrator for the Minor Family DNA Study. The Assistant Administrator is David Jones. Both of us are descendents of the Minors who migrated to Hawkins County, Tennessee in the early 1800s. Like many of you, we don't know where our ancestors came from. The purpose of this project is to try to identify the origins of the Minor families who migrated to America from unknown parts of the world. Anyone can participate in the study by contributing to the knowledge base of the Minors. DNA participants need to be males who can track their ancestry back to a male carrying the name Minor or one of its known spelling variations. Normally, that will be someone with the Minor last name or some name variation, but with you may have another last name due to divorce of an ancestor or adoption. The spelling variations that we know about are Minor, Miner, Mainer, Mainor, Maner, Manor, Manier. There may be other variations that you know about, and you are welcome to participate in the study.

This study will be conducted by testing the y-DNA of the male participant. There are many different tests that you can have performed on your DNA sample, and you can select the one that best fits with your situation. While this particular study is associated with Family Tree DNA, you can have your DNA tested anywhere you desire, and will welcome your testing contributions. If you have your DNA tested with Family Tree DNA, they offer 12, 24 and 37 marker testing. Thirty-seven marker testing offers the best discrimination between lines and 12 marker testing the worst. But, any contribution that you can make to the study will be greately appreciated, and will help all of us discover our ancestry.
