| Australian Miniature Pig Dog "Springhill Line" Description Medium Sized athletically built dog to approx 20 kg, bitches slightly smaller. Robust, keen and very intense. Standing squarely the topline drops off towards the strong driving hindquarters. Defined uppertuck with very flexible hips, well defined muscling on fore and hindquarters, with a well developed thigh muscle. Deep chest. Neck is strong on both males and females. Very strong terrier instincts. Eyes medium to dark, they should appear to look straight through you when focussed on you. Head is strong with definite stop, medium to short muzzle - preferably slightly overshot bottom jaw with large interlocking incisors for their size, with a strong jaw. Ears medium sized pendant folding neatly. Rough, wiry and smooth coats are all present, with rough coats predominant - males tend to show more "bearding" around the face, neck, topline, genitals and paws. A ridge is often present in the form of slightly longer hair just on the topline (all pups are born with a reverse ridge which they lose at first coat change and then usually reappears in adult coat in the form of coarse hair). Brindle in all shades is the more common colour with some white usually on the chest, toes and tip of tail. Other colours are sometimes seen, such as plain brown (red), and very rarely black pups are born. Summary The ultimate "Pocket Rocket", family pet, companion, best mate and small to medium game hunter. They are incredibly versatile - whether you want a family pet, best mate, all day companion, or a hunting dog - these dogs can do it all. If used for hunting, they are effective at finding and bailing, you can have the best traits of the entire dog world in an easier to manage midsized dog. The Australian Miniature Pig Dog "Springhill Line" is a formidable "best mate" with the added advantage of only growing to approx Blue Heeler size. History The Australian Miniature Pig Dog "Springhill Line" was developed over a 50 year period in Southern Queensland using over 60 different breeds to create a hunting/protection dog that breeds true to type. Breeds used include bull mastiffs, wolfhounds, great danes, rhodesian ridgebacks, APBTs, bandogs, stag hounds, pointers, boxers, weimeraners, english bulldogs, staffordshire bull terriers (both english and american), and jack russell terriers. We wanted to continue on with the formation of this type and have been very carefully line breeding since 2007 to create a type that replicates true to parentage, which can be documented for eventual breed recognition (a very very long process with the ANKC). All pup buyers are asked if they want to participate in helping us along to achieve breed status, and most opt to remain in contact with us for this purpose (this is completely optional and we appreciate all new owners who do assist us for the future integrity of this type). If you have any enquiries, please contact us via email. |
