  • Nicolas Cage shows off his romantic treasure
    (Hello Magazine, November 9, 2004)

Nicolas Cage's new wife Alice looked every inch the Hollywood starlet when she took to the red carpet with her husband on Monday. The 20-year-old, who was working as a waitress until she met the actor, was arm-in-arm with her leading man at the premiere of National Treasure in Los Angeles. Alice's life hasn't been the same since she met Nic at the sushi bar she was working in last year. She got a taste of the Hollywood lifestyle immediately after their wedding, when he whisked her away to the Big Apple for an extravagant spending spree.

And the Ocar winner continued to lavish gifts on the Korean-American beauty two months later when filming on his latest movie brought him to London. According to newspaper reports, the 40-year-old spent Ł80,000 on designer clothes and accessories for his new bride during the three-day visit.

Nic and Alice made their vows in a small private ceremony in California last July. It was the actor's third trip down the aisle: he had previously been married to Elvis Presley's daughter Lisa Marie and his Bringing Out The Dead co-star Patricia Arquette. The performer's loved ones seem to think his latest relationship will stand the test of time, though. "They're a good fit," says older brother Marc. "Definitely. I think this will last."

  • LISA MARIE'S MORTALITY REMINDER
    (contactmusic.com, October 28, 2004)

Rocker LISA MARIE PRESLEY can't bear to spend time at her late dad ELVIS' Graceland grave - because there's a space reserved for her right next to him. The 36-year-old fears she'll follow her father and grandmother, GLADYS, and die in her 40s, and then spend eternity lying beneath the grounds of the Memphis, Tennessee, estate her father called home. She says, "How many people are reminded of their fate, their mortality every day? All the graves are lined up and there's a spot there - waiting for me - right next to my grandmother." Graceland also features the graves of Elvis' father VERNON and his grandmother MINNIE MAE. Lisa Marie adds, "I'm sure I'll end up there. Or, I shrink my head and put it in a glass box in the living room."

  • Audience enjoys 'Tap, Swing and Laugh' Show
    By KRYSTAL DE LOS SANTOS
    (McKinney Courier-Gazette, October 21, 2004)

McKinney Concerts brought three timeless performers to Faubian Middle School Saturday who offered the audience a variety of talents with their Tap, Swing and Laugh show. Paul Lennon, a comedian who began his career with the USO show and has played at New York's famous Rainbow Room, was the first act of the night. Though Lennon started out slow, he soon had even younger members of the audience rolling with his impressions. Ever wonder what would have happened to music if Michael Jackson and Lisa Marie Presley would have had kids? Lennon's answer is hilarious. He can sing, too. ...

  • Ingram Hill get plushy in Tucson
    By Djamila Noelle Grossman
(Arizona Daily Wildcat, October 14, 2004)

Unlike most bands, Ingram Hill knew quite early that living off their music was going to be a major goal after college. What sounds like a naive idea became reality after self- releasing and distributing the bandŐs first EP, Until Now, in 2002. In order to spread the word, Ingram Hill toured a great deal in 2002 with Lisa Marie Presley, Saliva, Lifehouse, and O.A.R. to name a few. Finally pushing Until Now up to No. 5 on the Memphis retail charts, they still had no support from a record company. ...

  • Who what when where why: Lisa Marie Presley
    By Heath Brown
    (Telegraph, October 8, 2004)

Who had to stand at the back at last week's Dolce & Gabanna catwalk show? No fewer than three generations of genuine Presleys - grandma Priscilla, momma Lisa Marie and grand-daughter Riley - who kept their hosts waiting so long that the show had to start before they arrived. From the looks grandma and momma were giving Riley, it would seem that a teenage wardrobe crisis may have been to blame. ...

  • Japan's pop culture exports: It all started with Hello Kitty
    By Bennett Richardson
(Christian Science Monitor, October 6, 2004)

TOKYO - For an expressionless little white fur ball, Japan's Hello Kitty puts up a mean fight in the cultural jungle. Once the defining measure of girls' craze for cuteness within Japan, the pop feline today can be found staring out from the handbags, sweat shirts, notebooks, and now debit cards of children and night-clubbing art students alike around the globe. And as she marks her 30th anniversary, Hello Kitty's combination of Mona Lisa mystery and saccharine sweetness has become an unlikely symbol of the shift in Japan's global reach from cars to culture. ... The exhibition, which features works by everyone from fashion model Ai Tominaga to Lisa Marie Presley, is a tribute to that flexibility, with installations including a Hello Kitty UFO, a Kafkaesque Kitty de Milo statue, and a Kitty tattoo gallery. Mr. Kato estimates the number of visitors at 100,000 visitors so far and says he been approached to take the show to New York, London, and Paris. ...

  • What the gossip mags say
    By Jacqueline Maley
    (www.stuff.co.nz, July 14, 2004)

Grab the anti-nausea medication and hold on, for Britney Spears has made the fatal celebrity error of flaunting her new love in a vaseline-lensed magazine shoot. This week's goss mags all flail in the wake of Who, which has the exclusive interview with the Britster and her Love Rat fiance, Kevin Federline, who has left a heavily pregnant partner to be with Brit. ... Woman's Day adds nothing to the sum of goss mag knowledge this week, unless you count hassling Lisa Marie Presley about being a fattie. Photographs confirm LMP has indeed porked up, and along with the sensitive comparison with her father (during the fat years), it's remarkably reminiscent of ... well, the last story it printed about LMP. ...

  • A ray of light?
    By Ruth Ann Replogle
    (Enid News & Eagle, June 27, 2004)

Madonna has found something she can believe in. Can you believe it? The erotic icon and superstar began practicing yoga in the 1990s and subsequently turned to kabbalah (i.e. cabala). Evidence of her newfound faith appeared on her "Ray of Light" album in 1998.

Raised Roman Catholic, Madonna is embracing this ancient form of Judaism. A study into Jewish mysticism, kabbalah dates back to the 1200s. It is a philosophical theology based on the belief every word, letter, number and accent of the Torah contains keys to understanding the nature of the universe and the human soul. Followers use the Zohar, a 23-volume bible offering interpretations of the Torah. "It's not about religion. This is about improving your life from a spiritual point of view," said Dr. David Marder, a physician who runs kabbalah classes in Chicago, to the Chicago Tribune. Followers wear a red string ($26 if you purchase it from the Kabbalah Centre in Los Angeles) that allegedly protects him or her from evil. Worn on the left wrist - the receiving side of the body - the red string serves as a kabbalah amulet, warding off the "evil eye," offering protective energy, intercepting negative influences. Critics call kabbalah "the trendiest faith around," "the latest spiritual craze" since so many celebrities have begun attending classes at the Kabbalah Centre in Los Angeles. You're liable to see Elizabeth Taylor, Courtney Love, Roseanne Barr and others there.

Remember Scientology? Tom Cruise, John Travolta and Lisa Marie Presley are among the followers of Scientology, which urges members to take therapy-like sessions called "auditing" to achieve true spiritual enlightenment. ...

  • This Wood doesn't work: Caroline Sullivan tries to say something - anything - nice about the latest rock-star offspring to try and do as daddy did: Rolling Stone Ron Wood's daughter Leah
    (Guardian Unlimited, June 17, 2004)

The children of rock stars who follow their parents into music sometimes ply their trade quietly, Zak Starkey and Jason Bonham being admirable examples. The sons of Ringo and Led Zep's John, they have inherited drummer genetics, a rare chromosomal state of affairs that allows them to be fulfilled by playing a supporting role rather than a starring one. Mostly, though, rock stars spawn little rock stars, a less-than-super breed convinced that whatever mummy or daddy can do, they can do too. There's no law against them trying (though parliament should consider it), and occasionally it produces talent of the calibre of Rufus Wainwright or Jeff Buckley who equal or even surpass their famous folks. Given heredity's capriciousness, though, pater's loins are more likely to beget a Kelly Osbourne or a Lisa Marie Presley. Now it's Ron Wood's turn to wince as daughter Leah, having presumably bored of her previous 'calling' as a catwalk model, launches her pop career. ...

  • The man in the mirror: Peter Pan
    By ALEXANDRA GILL
(Globe and Mail, April 20, 2004)

It's no secret that Michael Jackson identifies with the fairy-tale boy who never grew up. But the darker undertones of that century-old story are closer to the troubled pop star's current reality than you'd ever imagine.

Once upon a time, there was a cute little boy who sang like an angel and boogied as bad as James Brown. His name was Michael Joseph Jackson, but his father called him Big Nose. Joseph Jackson wasn't necessarily a mean man, as far as tyrannical stage dads go. But he was a poorly paid crane operator with a large brood of children to feed. Luckily, it was a talented brood, Michael being the best singer of them all. Every day after school, Joseph marched his boys into the living room and made them rehearse until they collapsed from exhaustion. This was very hard on Michael, he being the youngest. On weekends, Joseph would drag the Jackson 5 to Chicago, where his soulful sons played smoky bars alongside drunken comics and aging strippers. Michael enjoyed this life about as much as he enjoyed being called Big Nose. The little boy vowed that when he got older he would make the world a better place - and surgically reshape his nose.

... Many dismiss the Peter Pan analogy, yet the dark undertones of author J. M. Barrie's life and his famous play, which celebrates its centenary this year, are closer to Jackson's current reality than most would ever imagine.

... In 1894, Barrie married actress Mary Ansell. The marriage was never consummated and eventually ended in divorce. "Barrie's impotence was much rumoured in his lifetime, one wag dubbing him 'the boy who couldn't go up,' " Birkin writes. Sound familiar? A few months back, Jackson's former wife and the mother of his two eldest children revealed that they had never actually had sex. In court papers filed over a custody dispute, Debbie Rowe claims she was artificially inseminated by an anonymous sperm donor. Even Lisa Marie Presley, who once insisted she and Jackson enjoyed normal relations as man and wife, appears to be backpedaling these days. ...

    MOST DIFFICULT INTERVIEW:

Lisa Marie Presley, very much so. Avril Lavigne would be the other one. I don't think she's had a lot of experience, she enjoys her singing but not so much the talking. I think if she could perform without having to do all the promotion that comes with it, she'd be happy. ...

  • Gathering of fun and funds
    (indystar.com, April 5, 2004)

For a first-time fund-raising gala, organizers were pleased with Saturday's Gathering of Goddesses that raised money for Planned Parenthood of Greater Indianapolis. Saturday night's party was the first glitzy affair hosted by the not-for-profit since Betty Cockrum became CEO two years ago. She said the party, featuring spa treatments, tarot card readers, dancing and lots of Greek food, would take place again next year. As expected at an evening focused on gathering goddesses, women made up most of the audience. NUVO Editor and Publisher Kevin McKinney showed up too late to get his fortune read but in time to receive, along with representatives of the other sponsors (Emmis Communications, Ice Miller, NAI Olympia Partners and the National Bank of Indianapolis), a framed Gathering of Goddesses poster. ... Among the items up for auction at an April 24 fund-raiser benefitting the Crohn's & Colitis Foundation of America are jeans signed by both Priscilla and Lisa Marie Presley. How Elvis Presley's ex-wife and daughter got involved with the Indianapolis gala is a matter of connections. ...
