  • INSIDE SHOCKING SPLIT
By PAULA FROELICH and BRAD HUNTER
    (Celeb News, November 28, 2002)
Lisa-Marie Presley and Nicolas Cage wore wide smiles and appeared the picture of wedded bliss when they posed for photographer Annie Leibovitz on Friday. But on Monday, Cage, 38, filed for divorce from his wife of just three months. A source told The Post the couple were "very professional and seemed happy" while posing for pictures slated to accompany a Q&A in Vogue's February issue. "When they announced their divorce, everyone was really shocked," the source said. "No one saw it coming. The photo shoot took place over several days and they were really very nice." But insiders said a combination of the Hollywood spotlight, her devotion to Scientology and the aura of Elvis, Lisa-Marie's late dad, doomed the marriage. ... And a friend of the actor's told People magazine: "They spent enough time together to fall in love - and not enough time together to make it work." ...

  • Escape from the Cage
(GQ Daily News, November 27, 2002)
Looks like the voodoo spell Nicolas Cage cast on his bride Lisa Marie didn't work. The Oscar-winning actor has filed for divorce from his wife just three months after their Hawaii nuptials. Cage, 38, has cited "irreconcilable differences" in divorce papers filed in Los Angeles Superior Court. The Leaving Las Vegas star married Presley, 34, daught of rock 'n' roll icon Elvis Presley this past August, following a year-long courtship. During this time, the pair briefly separated, dogged by rumours that Cage was reluctant to tie the knot. ...

  • And to nobody's surprise, Lisa Marie gets the house
    By Michael Lollar
    (Go Memphis, November 27, 2002)
The reaction was fast and curious Tuesday to the off-again relationship between Lisa Marie Presley and her newest soon-to-be ex-husband, Nicolas Cage. ... It was a marriage that incited rumors about converting Graceland from a tourist attraction into a home for the newlyweds. And it had spurred predictions about whether it would outlast Lisa Marie's previous marriages. First, there was rock musician Danny Keough (1988-1994), then a head-spinning marriage to self-proclaimed King of Pop Michael Jackson (1994-1996). "The divorce is sooner than I expected. I said three years, maybe," said actor Red West, a former member of Elvis Presley's Memphis Mafia.

Tabloids had speculated about a divorce for at least a week, some saying Cage kept insisting on moving to Graceland and closing it as a tourist attraction. Elvis Presley Enterprises put a disclaimer on the Elvis Web site recently denying rumors that Graceland would close. EPE spokesman David Beckwith, who's getting used to this, said Tuesday that regardless of whom Lisa is married to, the rumor of a Graceland closing "surfaces about once every three years. It usually starts in the British press, then moves over here." West didn't think the idea had legs anyway. "That's not possible because that's her income."

... Another former Memphis Mafia member, Jerry Schilling, who once managed Lisa Marie's still-unrealized record career, said the divorce probably inspired new tabloid speculation about closing Graceland. As for being obsessed about Elvis or Graceland, Schilling said Cage "is a big fan of Elvis. He's always said that, and been up front about it. So was I. But Nicolas Cage is an intelligent Academy Award-winning actor. I also respect Lisa, and I don't think she would be in an involvement on that level (with a man fixated on her late father's image)." Schilling said unfounded rumors always followed Elvis, including the rumor that he wanted to escape from fame. "Elvis loved being Elvis. These people get to these positions because they work very, very hard to be there. They don't want to escape."

Schilling added he is "very sorry to hear about the divorce. I really wanted this to work for Lisa. She's a good person. She's impulsive like her dad, but he was a good person, and I feel the same about Lisa."

  • LISA MARIE IS UN-CAGED
By DAVID K. LI, CHRIS WILSON and KATE SHEEHY
(New York Post, November 27, 2002)
It wasn't quite "Gone in 60 Seconds," but actor Nicolas Cage's marriage to Lisa-Marie Presley has already crumbled - after only three months. The quirky star filed for divorce from Elvis' daughter in Los Angeles on Monday, citing "irreconcilable differences." A peeved Presley was more blunt about the pair's problems. "I'm sad about it, but we shouldn't have been married in the first place. It was a big mistake," the surprisingly candid 34-year-old admitted.

The pair, on-again, off-again for months before finally tying the knot in a lavish, super-secret Hawaiian wedding Aug. 10, were rumored to have been at odds over everything from Cage's massive comic-book collection to his obsession with Presley's pompadoured late pop. Cage, 38, recently put his priceless comics on the auction block after Presley reportedly whined they took up too much space in their mansion. The move was considered a huge cave-in for Cage, who was said to have changed his last name from Coppola to Cage early in his career to pay homage to Marvel superhero Luke Cage. His adoration for Elvis also knew no bounds. Cage was said to have bought a $6 million vacant lot in Bel Air to build his own version of Graceland, Elvis' home. He owned a pair of blue suede shoes. His answering machine is said to use a recording of Elvis' voice. He even crooned Elvis' classic hit "Love Me Tender" for the soundtrack of his movie "Wild at Heart" - and impersonated The King in the movie "Honeymoon in Vegas." He and Presley were married on the eve of the 25th anniversary of Elvis' death.

Still, the "Gone in 60 Seconds" star was reportedly nothin' but a hound dog at times during their tumultuous courtship. Presley was said to have spotted pictures of Cage surrounded by bevies of buxom beauties at Super Bowl parties in January - and angrily called it quits. The pair reunited several months later and married. Cage, asked for comment after plunking down $214.50 to file the divorce papers, said, "I did not talk about the marriage, and I am not going to talk about the divorce."

  • Nicolas Cage, Lisa Marie Presley divorcing
    (CNN, November 26, 2002)

  • Cage, Presley to End Three-Month Marriage
    By Jill Serjeant
    (Yahoo! News / Reuters, November 26, 2002)
Oscar-winning actor Nicolas Cage has filed for divorce from second wife, Lisa Marie Presley, after just three months marriage in a short-lived union even by Hollywood standards. The 38-year-old star of "Leaving Las Vegas" and "Captain Corelli's Mandolin," cited irreconcilable differences with the only child of Elvis Presley in divorce papers filed in Los Angeles on Tuesday. Presley issued a statement saying the marriage was doomed from the start. Cage and Presley were married in a secret ceremony in Hawaii in August, cementing an 18 month on-off romance between two of the more eccentric figures in show business. Cage declined to comment on the reasons for the divorce. Presley said; "I'm sad about this but we shouldn't have been married in the first place. It was a big mistake," she said in a statement.

It was the third marriage for Presley, 34, a budding singer who was married to superstar Michael Jackson for less than two years and who previously had two children with musician Danny Keogh. Cage, who once ate a live cockroach for the movie "Vampire's Kiss," is a big Elvis fan. He recorded the Elvis hit "Love Me Tender" for the soundtrack of the 1990 movie "Wild at Heart" and reportedly has a voicemail message using his Elvis voice. He impersonated Elvis in a scene from the 1992 movie "Honeymoon in Vegas" and his marriage to Lisa Marie took place on the eve of the 25th anniversary of Elvis's death. Cage, known for his edgy, risky screen characters, split from actress Patricia Arquette in May last year after a six- year marriage. He has a son with model Kristina Fulton. Cage and Presley's relationship was known to be stormy, and tabloid newspapers reported blazing arguments between the pair a few weeks ago. They began dating in early 2001 but announced they had parted ways in January 2002. But by June they emerged as a couple again, appearing together at the premiere of Cage's war movie "Windtalkers."

  • Nicolas Cage To Lisa Marie: No Mas!
    By Joal Ryan
(CBS News / Associated Press, November 26, 2002)
Actor Nicolas Cage has filed for divorce from Lisa Marie Presley less than four months after their romantic wedding in Hawaii. The actor -- filing under his real name, Nicolas Coppola -- cited irreconcilable differences as the reason for the split in a petition filed Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court. There was no immediate comment from publicists for Presley or Cage.

  • Cage, Presley: Return to Sender
    By Joal Ryan
    (Yahoo News, November 26, 2002)
The marriage has left the building. The curious coupling of Elvis fan Nicolas Cage and Elvis spawn Lisa Marie Presley is kaput, with Cage filing for divorce Monday in Los Angeles, after just three-and-a-half months of wedded bliss. Per usual, Cage cited irreconcilable differences. It's not known exactly what cooled the couple's burning love. Presley sounded remorseful -- more so about the marriage, than the breakup. "I'm sad about this, but we shouldn't have been married in the first place," Presley said through her publicist, Paul Bloch. "It was a big mistake." Speaking on behalf of the Cage camp, publicist Annette Wolf took the high road. "I did not talk about the marriage, and I am not going to talk about the divorce," the rep said. Just last weekend, the two appeared to be very much a twosome, putting in a joint appearance for a premiere of Cage's new movie, Adaptation. While it seems like only yesterday, it was actually August 10 that Cage, 38, and Presley, 34, were wed in front of Mother Presley (aka, actress/entrepreneur Priscilla) and their respective children from previous relationships at the Mauna Lani Bay Hotel and Bungalows in Hawaii.

  • Marilyn Manson Exhibits 'Grotesque' Art in L.A.
    By Dean Goodman
    (Yahoo News, September 22, 2002)
Shock-rocker Marilyn Manson, infamous for ripping up Bibles and invoking Satan on stage, is showcasing another side of his twisted mind with a Hollywood art exhibit dubbed "The Golden Age of Grotesque." Colorful watercolors of emaciated souls and grisly corpses greeted celebrities such as actor Nicolas Cage and his new wife, Lisa Marie Presley, at a launch party on Thursday. Manson, 33, told Reuters he was proudest of a suite of four works called "Elizabeth Short as Snow White. Short, known as the Black Dahlia, was chopped in half and left naked in a Los Angeles field 55 years ago in one of Los Angeles' great unsolved crimes. Red Hot Chili Peppers bass player Flea was impressed enough to spend $30,000 on a portrait of Short. "I make things that most people would consider grotesque a little bit prettier," said Manson, whose real name is Brian Warner. "I used a lot of child-like colors. I used a children's paint set actually, and it has a lot of pastels." Manson said he enjoyed the creative process. "The one thing about it that differs from music is that I can be alone, I paint in silence, just me and the brush and the paper. I don't know if it's cathartic. It's very relaxing." The priciest item among the 57 works was a naked Hitler as hermaphrodite, at $55,000. But some were as low as $1,000. In titling the exhibition as well as his eponymous band's upcoming album "The Golden Age of Grotesque," Manson said he was paying tribute to 1930s-era Weimar Berlin and Hollywood. "I'm trying to bring back ... the excitement, the glamour, the decadence and take it as far as it can go." Another celebrity endorsement came from rock 'n' roll scion Jack Osbourne, who was trailed by a film crew for his family's hit TV show "The Osbournes," as he spent $15,000 on a Mad Hatter painting titled "Harlequin Jack as the Absinthe Bunny."

    (Sky News, September 18, 2002)
Lisa Marie Presley has been speaking about her battle with drugs and admitted she was once addicted to cocaine. Elvis's daughter, who is a member of the Church of Scientology, said she had kicked the habit through her own will power and the help of her church. The 34-year-old told the Daily Star she checked into the church's rehab centre and emerged a "new person". She also revealed she used to watch her father pop pills. But she said she was too young to appreciate what Elvis was doing. "All the bad things never changed my love for him," said Lisa Marie, who is married to third husband Nicholas Cage.

  • Priscilla, daughter hail Elvis fans
(Aberdeen News / Associated Press, August 17, 2002)

Elvis Presley's daughter took the stage long enough to introduce a song she had written for her father at a concert marking the 25th anniversary of his death. A nervous Lisa Marie Presley, who strongly resembles her father, appeared for about a minute at Friday's concert. She said she would not sing the song but that a recording of it would be played for the audience of 14,000 cheering fans. In the mournful rock number, Lisa Marie told her father she wished she had had more time with him and that no one had noticed the trials he endured. "I wanted you to know that I haven't forgotten," she sang. "You made me. I love you. You're still lovely. You were lovely then." Lisa Marie's mother, Priscilla Presley, told fans at the start of the concert, "you're helping Elvis make history again." "I want to thank you for your loyalty and support for Elvis. You have given so much back to him," she told the crowd jammed into The Pyramid arena in Memphis. She promised the concert would "blow you away." With that, the arena went dark and an enormous video screen filled with images of Elvis singing some of his trademark songs. On stage, some of his original backup musicians played. Among them was Elvis' first drummer, D.J. Fontana, who drew his own ovation when the cameras focused on him.

Lisa Marie's two children, her mom, PRISCILLA PRESLEY, and Priscilla's longtime boyfriend, MARCO GARIBALDI, were in attendance, as well as other family and relatives from Memphis. Nicolas' father, mother, brothers and son from a previous relationship were also said to be there. Sources revealed that the bride wore a corseted, strapless ivory BADGLEY MISCHKA wedding gown, while the groom sported a tuxedo. The couple exchanged traditional vows; a local Christian minister performed the service. Music was provided by a string quartet, who played "Here Comes the Bride" for Lisa Marie's grand entrance. The ceremony took place on the lawn in front of the Eva Parker Woods cottage, a historic building that now houses a museum. Sources also told ET that after the famous duo became man and wife, a big champagne toast ensued, followed by a lavish dinner and celebration at the hotel. There was no real honeymoon, however.
