TRUE SOUNDS OF LIBERTY
T.S.O.L. is a punk rock band from southern California which
started in the  late-late 70's and came out with their first 7" s/t. This was a more unoriginal, anarchistic style of punk which was hard and stressed the idea of no government, but during  1981 they would release an album that collectively expressed their inner darkness, and death influence into their music. The album "Dance with Me" a punk rock classic which seemed to embody just what TSOL was and is. They rose along the lines of the "Death Punk Movement" along with bands as diverse as The Misfits, 45 Grave, etc. However, the style of their music has varied much from time to time, even into an artsy, more alternative based music from the release of "Beneath the Shadows" but one                                               thing hasn't changed, their live                                               performances which presentthem as a band of talent and raw energy, you can catch aglimpse of them live from the Penelope Spheeris movie (I highly recomend this one) "Suburbia." The band almost took a dive when in 1983(I think) Jack Grisham left the band to pursue his rock career a little further (metal shit) left to fill in the void for the band were Joe Wood on vocals, and some other guy on drums.
Most people hated the fact that Jack left, his lyrics and vocals have always benefitted the band and were downright incredible, however Joe was just as talented, he made TSOL reborn with that dark edge which confronted topics such as war, magic, and suicide. His voice almost ghostly, filled with faint echoes and an inner self-destructive pain filled. During this time TSOL was put through hell, band members were reduced into heroin addicts, including Joe Wood, who's song "It's Grey" reflects the pain in which it causes, and he also suffered even more when a few friends of his died of overdoses.
NEWS: TSOL releases the album entitled "Dissapear" in 2001, sadly without their fallen drummer Todd Barnes. Not sure of any plans of any upcoming releases, I'm pretty sure they are touring right now but I don't exactly stalk them from town to town, nor am I insane enough to do that.
