Ride'n Out West

The fun is Dirt Bike Trail Riding in Colorado & Utah

Next 5 pictures are from our Sept. 2007 trip to Utah and Colorado

This is what off trail dirt bike riding in Colorado is all about!!      Vic and I are on the right  ....Aug. 2007....

We hiked up this "Angels Landing" in Zion...  The thing is, the drop off on each side is about 1,000 feet.   Exciting to say the least!!

Below left shows the true fun of camping out in the Rockies.   I am enjoying a glass of vino and that is our truck camper and trailer in the background.   Below right is a picture of Vic and I at about 12,000 ft near Silverton, CO....  We rode down those trails in the background....

We did encounter some snow at higher elevations....

and of course just for fun I buried my rear wheel  in it!!!

This trip to Colorado in 1998 was one of the best.  This picture is taken about 5 miles from the Wyoming border in Northern Colorado.  It was a thrill to ride into another state!  The elevation was 9,140 ft.  The area we rode out of was "The Hahn Peak area".  We saw something really cool while riding that area.   It was called a BLOWDOWN.

Go to: blowdown.htm to read about it.   Amazing to see 20,000 acres of trees that were blown down by a freak storm.

This picture is my wife and I on another part of the Continental Divide.  Tincup Pass is near Buena Vista, CO.  We have been there in July when we could not get over the pass due to snow and an avalanche.  That whole area is a great riding area.  From there we have gone to within a short hike to the peak of 2 Fourteeners.     You can also ride to beautiful Mirror Lake and also ride a super single track trail called "Timberline Trail".  You can ride to an old Gold Mining town named "St. Elmo".  The town is maintained they way it was in the 1800's.

This is one of my riding buddies - Jack and I on top of a Colorado peak (Yes that is snow on the background peaks).  We encounter snow on a regular basis out there, even in the summer if they had a hard winter.  I have ridden Colorado and or Utah every for the past twelve years and of course we are going again this year.  My wife has ridden with me a few times.  She now rides a new Honda CRF150F with a "Happy" button  that will take her up anything.  My wife Vicki shows no fear!

This is myself and a few buddies at an old gold mine near St. Elmo.  It was really cool seeing the remnants of an actual gold mine.  Much of the workings are still there.  The scenery is spectacular almost everywhere we go.  The Aspen trees are the most picturesque sight if they are changing color to golden yellow.  There are lakes, mines, tunnels, mountains, stream crossings, gulches, and most often we do not see another human for miles.

Now this next shot is one of my riding buddies that had a little problem crossing this rain swollen creek.  My wife Vicki and I are watching him...   He was not very happy!!!  In case you haven't figured it out, that thing sticking out of the muddy water in the middle of the picture is the handlebar end grip on his motorcycle....  Believe it or not, we got his cycle running....    Oh the thrill of it all!!!!

Ski'n Colorado

This is Vic and myself at the top of a run in Vail - One  of the best ski areas in the country in my opinion.    We had a great time skiing Keystone, Breckenridge and Vail with my brother Tim and his wife Nanci...

This picture is at the top of Keystone.  Vic is on the left then Nanci and my brother Tim.  We skied the black diamond run "Geronimo" right behind them many times.  It was a blast!

This is my brother Tim who thinks he is a Monk!   What a guy!

Say a prayer for all of us Father Tim!!!
