When The Past Returns

Chapter 9

After dinner everyone went their separate ways. The 5 pilots, disappeared onto the patio for drinks and "guy talk" as Duo put it. Hilde laughed at the thought of the guys gossiping. She didn't mind since the girls were gonna do the same thing. Relena led them into a room with couches and seats for everyone to sit and converse. The butler came in and took orders for drinks.

"No tequila shots this time." Hilde said to Midii. Dorothy ordered a brandy, Relena and Hilde went for a Midori sour, Sally and Catherine went for wine. Midii, on a whim ordered a martini. When Hilde gave her a curious look, she shrugged. "Never had one, but hey, they look pretty classy." Everyone laughed at that. After their drinks arrived, Dorothy started in on a topic. "So, Midii, When are you going to talk to Trowa?" She looked down at her lap, watching the folds of her sea green gown catch the light in the room. "I don't know if I can." She sighed. Hilde, sitting next to her, smacked her arm. "Of course you can! This is what you came to do right?"

She looked at everyone smiling at her. She could tell by the looks on their faces that they

were behind her all the way. Even Trowa's sister was there. "I guess you're right." Hilde laughed "Of course! I'm always right!" Dorothy snorted at that. "You'd like to think so, wouldn't you." Hilde just beamed. "Yup I do." Midii laughed at Hilde's confidence in herself. *She and Duo are one in the same. I don't think anyone else would fit with each other* Relena broke it up by saying "Midii, so are you going to talk to him?" Midii took another swig of her martini, grimacing cause it really tasted horrible. "Yes." She answered

seriously, then grin. "After I have another one of these."

The guys were basically doing the same thing outside on the patio, but Duo was the only one drinking. After a little prodding, he convinced Trowa and Heero to join him. "So, Duo, what did you find out?" Trowa asked. It was bothering him all day. Duo shrugged and took another swig of beer. "She's here to see you actually." Trowa's eyes narrowed. "How did she know I was here?" Heero and Quatre were leaning in to hear every word. Wufei pretended indifference, but was obviously straining to hear everything, and trying to look like he wasn't listening. "She met Hilde on accident. Hilde helped her out, they talked, found out you and her friend from the past were one and the same, and she came to talk to you."

*How can Duo be so casual about this? I feel like my insides have turned to mush* Trowa was having a bit of trouble on how to react. "Trowa, just talk to her." Duo said. "If Hilde trusts her, then she's not here to harm anyone. Hilde's a good judge of character." he

said a bit smugly. Wu fei snorted. "Then why on earth would she date you Maxwell?" he said. Heero and Quatre held back their chuckle. Duo was unphased. "Like I said. Good judge of character." Duo picked up his beer and slapped Trowa on the back. "Go get her tiger." Trowa swung around "What do you mean by that?" *He noticed me staring, I know he did. Please let me be wrong*

"I saw the way you were looking at her." *Shit* Trowa grimaced. "Hey I say go for it. You'll never know unless you try. This could be your chance at something big. You have nothing to fear but fear itself." After saying his piece Duo wandered back into the house, leaving 4 incredulous stares in his wake.

"Since when did Duo give good, serious advice?" Quatre asked. Heero shrugged. "He always has. You just have to give him a moment." Wufei just stared at Heero as if he lost his mind. "If you pay attention to what he says, and not his tone, you'll realize the guy's not as dense as you think." Heero smirked and also left to go in the house. "He actually defended Maxwell. Maybe I DO need a drink." Wufei went in search of one.

Quatre took a seat beside the brooding Trowa. "Trowa, what exactly ARE you scared of?" Trowa looked into the eyes of his best friend. *What am i scared of? Hurt, betrayal?* "Lots of things, I guess." Trowa answered. Quatre look concerned. "Talk to me Trowa. Let me help you." It was hard for Trowa to open up, even to Quatre, but he did. He told him of his fear of rejection, fear of losing her a second time, the feeling that he could never trust her because of it. Quatre listened intently. "Trowa, don't let these things hold you back." he

stated. "Your worried about the 'what if's' too much. When the time comes, you'll know what to do. Talk to her first. Thats the only thing that can ease your mind." Quatre put his hand on Trowa's shoulder for a minute, studying his response. Trowa would talk to her, he could see it. Quatre smiled and left the boy to his thoughts.

Duo headed upstairs to the room where the girls were gossiping. After knocking he entered. He looked to see the empty glasses that he knew contained some sort of alcohol and chuckled at the girls giggling chatter. Catherine didn't feel to good and already headed for bed. The other girls smiled at Duo as he came up and stood behind Hilde. "Ok Cinderella, he's all yours." Duo said, grinning wickedly. Midii looked up and blushed. "Knowing Trowa, you'll find him walking in the garden about now. He goes there to think, plus Quatre saw him heading there." He winked at her.

Midii stood up. 3 Martinis had given her enough liquid courage to do this task without

backing out. "Wait!" cried Dorothy. she reached in her bag and pulled out a small bottle. She lightly sprayed Midii with a scentless perfume. Midii raised a questioning eyebrow. "Whats that?" Dorothy smiled and replaced the bottle. "Pheremone." Midii's eyes widened and Relena and Hilde started laughing. Dorothy scowled. "Hey every little bit helps." Midii turned to everyone in the room. "Thank you." she started. "You've all been so great to

me, even knowing the things I did. I can't thank you enough." Relena smiled warmly. "It's in the past and that’s where it should stay." Midii smiled and left to find Trowa, in hopes she could finally put to rest the demon that has haunted them both for so long.
