The dance studio is in the BodySong Healing & Arts Center. It is an urban oasis! Plenty of gardens, beauty, and spirit. I look forward to seeing you there!

FROM HWY 99 (Aurora Ave.):

Turn West onto 85th. Take first right onto Linden Ave. Turn right onto 89th. Studio is second lot from the end of the block, on the right. Next door to the Aurora Veterinary Clinic.

FROM I-5:

Take 85th St. Exit and head west. Cross Aurora/99 and follow directions above.

The classes are set up in an eight-week course, unless otherwise noted. The cost for the course is $96. If you have unused punches on a previous frequent dancer card, I will be happy to honor those! Look for more advanced courses, workshops, and drop-in classes this spring and summer... Classes will form upon demand/interest.

All classes are loosely formatted. We will address Hips, Arms, Ribs, and other moves in each class.

If you 've never danced before (or very little), sign up the Beg I class. If you've bellydanced with me or someone else at all, come to the Beg. II class. There is an Intermediate & Troupe class upon demand... I am a licensed massage therapist, and have been trained in body awareness, movement therapy, and pain management.

Who I Am...

I am Michele, although I sometimes use a stage name of Chela. I started belly dancing in 1995, and teaching in 1999. I have trained with many different teachers, in many different styles, although I always come back to Egyptian/American Cabaret! I love music and rhythm and really feeling expressive when I dance, and I love passing that along to students. I believe in the expression of the spirit through art and movement. I LOVE teaching - Art, Energy, Movement, Dance...

When I am not teaching or dancing, I work as a Licensed Massage Therapist. My training in Anatomy and Kinesiology helps me to bring an extra level of awareness to my dance classes. Small adjustments to technique can often enhance muscle strenghtening and ease of movement. I am also able to modify movements for each student's ability, and assist in injury assessment and rehabilitation (although these particular classes are not specifically designed for rehabilitation).

I live in Seattle with my husband of 9 years, and our 3 kitties - Percy, Willow, and Charlie. My other interests include art (painting, drawing, designing, photography, crafting...) and art appreciation, writing, reading, yoga, swimming, movies & classic Hollywood, music, numerology and astrology. I also teach Women's Sprituality and Living Archetype Workshops at a semi-annual Retreat as a part of MoonWeb, as well as Energy Awareness and Healing, through BodySong.

What To Expect...

>Classes are tailored to meet individual needs and desires.

>You don't have to expose your stomach if you don't want to.Wear something comfortable and stretchy...leggings, sweatpants, bike shorts, or a flowy skirt paired with a sports bra, crop top, or T-shirt. If your T is baggy, expect to tie it in a knot...Basically, you want to see your curves and watch them move!

>Strengthening the muscles of the hips, abs, and back can lead to increased energy and stamina, and decreased chronic back pain* and fatigue.

>Bellydancing is a strength training activity. It can be a cardio-vascular workout as well. Some moves take time to build up to, so don't get discouraged!

>We warm up, stretch before and after, and work hard! Sometimes we sweat, sometimes we're tired and sore. Know your limits, and speak up in class! I'm very happy to slow things down or change gears anytime...

*Check with your doctor if you have serious health concerns
