In Quiz Bowl, high schools compete against each other in a "Jeopardy"-style game. The reader asks questions from a packet, and the individual players answer - no conferring is allowed unless it is during a bonus round. The first match, the "Lightning Round," is a rapid-fire 3 minute round of 15 questions. After the Lightning Round is two 8 minute bonus rounds. The team answering a question correctly is given 10 bonus questions in 60 seconds just for that team to answer. After both 8 minute rounds, there is one more Lightning Round.
What is Knowledge Bowl
Knowledge Bowl is similar to Quiz Bowl except it is done on a team basis, and is somewhat more difficult. At the beginning of the tournament, the teams register and are given a packet of 60 multiple-choice questions to answer on a Scan-Tron sheet. This is the Written Round, and last approximately 50 minutes. When this round is complete, the scores are determined and ranked on a chart. This determines the placement of teams in rooms - the more points, the higher ranking of room the team is in. Generally, there are 4 or 5 oral rounds and a final round for the top 5 teams. In the oral rounds, when the reader reads the question, the teams buzz in and answer in order of when they buzzed in, according to the computer (which usually doesn't work). Then, the first team is given 15 seconds to confer with each other, then the captain must answer. If they answer incorrectly, the next team gets 15 seconds to confer and answer. If one team answers incorrectly but the other teams have not buzzed in, the question is reread. 1 point is given for each correctly answered question.
