MHE…. What is it?

MHE (Multiple Hereditary Exostoses) is a hereditary bone disease that causes bone tumors to form mostly on or near the ends of long bones, though almost any bone in the body can be affected. To date, surgery is the only method used to correct deformities, remove tumors and increase range of motion. People with MHE can have a great deal of difficulty walking, running, lifting, carrying, bending joints, kneeling, grasping and with arm and leg rotation. Many suffer from chronic, often disabling, pain and fatigue. Tumors can grow and increase at any time, but tend to increase in size and number during growth spurts. Unfortunately, there is a chance that these tumors can become malignant.
