Nationals 2005 Journal Hi everyone!! I just want to thank everyone for their support after my rollercoaster week in London for the Canadian Championships. The week did not turn out how I had planned, hoped, expected or worked for but everything happens for a reason and hopefully I figure out that reason soon....The competition started off pretty rocky with my qualifying round performance but I went into the short program mad at myself for it and it turned out great. I know I had to move up and that I didn't belong in that second to last warm-up group and I skated a good short program and got myself into medal contention. The long program..... I really can't explain what went wrong...Unfortunately I still don't know :( I skated last and I knew that the bronze medal was well within my grasp.... Maybe I wanted it a bit too much? Maybe I was too nervous? Maybe I tried to hard? Maybe my legs weren't ready to compete after waiting almost an hour since the warm up? Maybe I just wasn't prepared enough? Those could all be excuses as to why I skated so poorly but I'm not willing to use any of them.... Everyone has bad days... and mine just happened to come at the most important time..... I was absolutely devastated afterwards, as many of you could probably see. I had been training so hard and was so upset with myself because I was SO close.... I was SO close to making the national team and winning a medal... and I could not produce..... But.... I have had a great season. I know, I did not want my season to end now. I wanted to challenge for a top 5 placement at Junior Worlds.... But, that's life and that's sport.... I had the chance to compete at the Junior Grand Prix final this year, and I guess that was my Junior Worlds.....I will have many more chances at success... I will be in that same position again one day and when I am- I am going to take it and grab it!! I won't let this happen again!! I am going to take a break from singles right now and when I come back, I am going to work harder then ever before!! I will be back next year- stronger then ever!! Thanks everyone!!! *Meagan* |

Meagan also has a Pairs journal on her new pairs site with Ryan Arnold!

(Oct. 18, 2004 - Ottawa, ON) - Coming off one of Canada's most successful seasons on the International Skating Union (ISU) Junior Grand Prix circuit, a total of eight Canadian skaters will compete in this season's ISU Junior Grand Prix Final. Five Canadian entries - one lady, one man, one pair team and two ice dance teams - will compete in the event, which will be held Dec. 2-5 in Helsinki, Finland. Canada's total of five entries is the largest Canadian team to have ever qualified for the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final.
Representing Canada in the Ladies event is 18-year-old Meagan Duhamel. Duhamel, of Walden, Ont., qualified for the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final on the strength of her gold medal win at the 2004 ISU Junior Grand Prix event in Courchevel, France, and, most recently, a fifth-place finish at the 2004 ISU Junior Grand Prix event in Miercurea Ciuc, Romania, which was held this past weekend. This will be the first time competing at the ISU Junior Grand Prix Final for the 2003 Canadian Junior Ladies Champion, who placed 10th in the Senior Ladies event at the 2004 BMO Financial Group Canadian Championships. Lee Barkell coaches Duhamel at the Mariposa School of Skating in Barrie, Ont.

| Why did you start skating? I skated skating because my sister skated and I like to follow her around so I followed her into skating. | |
| Does anyone in your family skate? My sister skated at Canadians in novice in 1999 but she has since quit. | |
| Why train at mariposa? Because I wanted to skate pairs and I had a pair try out and moved to Barrie to skate pairs but then I changed my mind and decided to stick to singles!! haha I didn’t even end up doing pairs for a day!! | |
| Idols in Skating and Why: .... umm, definitely my sister because when she made Canadians it was a huge thing for my family and it made me realize I really could go there too but I also look up to Irina Slutskaya and Jennifer Robinson for her attitude! | |
| What did you do during off ice time? hang out with friends; go to the movies and the beach | |
