Paradise: Land of the Meat Puppets

Links

I aim to present a good, basic Puppets site with a lot of content, but I am new at this... There are a handful of great Puppets sites on the 'net, but sadly they are the only few that remain after many of the established websites have gone down. If you have any links I should know about, let me know.

Meat Puppets Sites

Meat Puppets Official Site
This is the official site, but it's not like a lot of those other official sites out there. Although Derrick hasn't been updating it as much as he used to, it still hosts a ton of great content, nice design, and a really good insider's peek at the Puppets. If the Internet had a museum, I'd vote this 5-or-so-year-old site in!

Ancient Blocks of Sound
As if I haven't name-checked this great site already... Tons of original content, and a great repository of live sound clips from throughout the years, as well as nice scans of Color With Cris. My favourite Pups fan site.

Kirkwood's Chemical Garden
A wonderful site that has been successfully doing a lot of what my site aims to do since 1995. Its only faults are a lack of information (other than a wonderfully well-written bio) and the fact it's on Xoom. Note as of October 2001: this site is now yet another Pups site that has apparently left the web for good, I'm leaving the link up for historical purposes.

SACKzilla's Meat Puppet Page
How could I have forgotten this site? This guy has a lot of interesting personal Pups stories, a great sense of humour, and a lot of great video captures (a couple of which appear on my Bio page)... Great images and original content.

Kenny's Meat Puppets Page
This page has some sound clips and guitar tabs, but since it's been static for three years, all it really does is illustrate how many Meat Puppets sites have disappeared (check out the Links page to see what I mean).

Up On The Sun
Another fledgling Meat Puppets webmaster like myself. It's only been around since the end of June 2000, so it's still being built. So far, nice basic information, a very user-friendly discography that even states how available releases are, and some articles that aren't on my site.

Roxanne's Meat Puppets 2.0
A single page with nice pictures and a review of a show by the current Puppets lineup. Her entire site is very nicely designed, and she reminds me of myself--great minds think alike, you know.

MacDara Conroy's Meat Puppets Page
MacDara has his brief Puppets page here. It's nicely designed and shares his feelings about the band. Another interesting, albeit short, site from a Pups list member.

The Puppetorium
Luke Simpson hosts a good number of guitar tablatures on his growing site, among a few other things. Pay him some visits so he'll update it some more.

Yahoo! Music: Meat Puppets
Yahoo has some sort of Meat Puppets club going on here, apparently. Haven't visited enough to really know how useful this place is.

Audiogalaxy: Meat Puppets
Once again, not much here, except for some fan comments and general info, as well as links and info for the SIMS Foundation. This site also features a link to download a nice version of "Oh Me" as reworked by the new lineup.

All Music Guide's entry for the Meat Puppets
This is very much an encyclopedia entry on the Puppets, with background information, history, description of the music, and reviews for every single album the band put out. A great resource.

Rykodisc: Meat Puppets
The label the reissues are on. They offer a great deal of 8 albums for 88.88 which I plan to take advantage of real soon...

Atlantic Records' Official Page
This place has some current pictures as well as up-to-date tour dates and news.

Rolling Stone: Meat Puppets
This little place offers up some photos and reviews... and a really dumb trivia question on the startup page.

Eric Foster's Pictures of Curt's Stubb's gig, May 5, 2001
Meat Puppets fan Eric Foster caught the Sonic Youth gig at Stubb's with Curt opening and snapped some great pics, which can be found here.

Derrick Bostrom's Today's Sounds
Bostrom still takes the time to work on his side project, Today's Sounds, mostly an homage to vintage novelty stuff, you can buy his CDs here.

Derrick Bostrom's "Your Little Radio Show"
More of Bostrom's love of kitchsy tunes, here you can find one of his newer projects, an online radio show.

Digital Club Network's Meat Puppets 2.0 Section
Here you can find four early 2001 Pups 2.0 club shows for your viewing pleasure, just remember that streaming video sucks ass unless you have a high speed connection.

Believe it or not, but those are the only sites on the 'net I know of for the Pups other than reviews and articles. That's why I'm here!

Other Sites of Interest

Disturbing Patterns
Some of the coolest and weirdest wallpapers and website backgrounds around... It's where I found mine.

Sonicnet
A great all-around music site with copious information and regular news updates.

Phoenix New Times
This local publication has been with the Puppets throughout their career... Not to mention that it's what brought the world Jesus of the Week.

Austin Chronicle
Since Curt has relocated to Austin, this is the paper that has been following his new group.

The SIMS Foundation
The Puppets' pet charity--dedicated to the late brother of new Pups lineup member Kyle Ellison. Sims killed hiimself in 1995, one of the many tragic stories to pepper the backgrounds of the members of the new Puppets. The charity offers mental health assistance to musicians, one of whom was Cris (who apparently rejected the help).

The Butthole Surfers
A band with close-knit ties to the Puppets, and another of the music world's great hidden treasures. The official site is the best I can do, since my favourite site (which I helped with), Lee Harvey's Grave, apparently went belly-up a while ago.

Nirvana
The obligatory Nirvana link... Another case of my favourite fan site (Smiley's Nirvana Page) having bit the dust.

Maricopa County Superior Court, Arizona
A sneaky place for nasty snoops to check out the Kirkwoods' history of court cases (namely Cris's drug arrests). I was guided here after visiting Pop Smear Mag's print of the "Shooting Star" article, so it's not my fault! I would never be sneaky and nosy like that... Um, well, at least I wouldn't have figured this out my--oh, never mind. You know you want to.

eBay
Nice place to find Puppet rarities, most of the time for good prices.

I bet there's a million other sites I could put on here, but fuck it, I'm tired. That should keep you busy for now...
